It's good to be home after more than two weeks in the hospital. This time, I won't be facing the cold, distant Haerin anymore.
Now she's my sweet Haerin, and there's nothing I want more in this world than to spend time with her until my time ends.
As soon as the door opens, we're greeted by Mittens who looks over excited as soon as she hears the car engine and footsteps approaching. Mittens always seems to know when I'm coming home, which is one of the things I adore about her-other than her penchant for sleeping for hours, of course.
To my surprise, Mittens runs to Haerin instead of me. Haerin picks her up and cradles her close, showering her with kisses. The sight makes me so happy that I wish time would stand still. But I'm also a little jealous-someone else is kissing my cat, or my cat is kissing my wife. I'm not sure which.
Haerin hands Mittens to me, and I quickly take her, snuggling my cheek against her and letting out a squeal. Oh, how I missed my cat!
Haerin looks at me with adoration in her eyes. It makes my heart melt every time she looks at me like that, and it also managed to make my heart race for how unbelievable everything seemed to be. Before this, she could never.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I tease her.
She seems taken aback. "Like what?"
"Like you have feelings for me."
She scoffs, shaking her head. I can't believe my eyes-her ears are red!
"You're delusional," she remarks. Oh, really?
"No, I'm not." I put Mittens down and poke her shoulder with my finger.
"Just admit that you like me already, Haerin," I tease, and she still looks away with those red ears of hers.
Ah, so cute! My wife can be scary and all, but she can be so cute sometimes. I'm not kidding. Just look at her!
"I don't like you, I love you," she teases back, taking my poking hand and guiding me to the sofa.
I squeal. "Since when did you become a sweet talker?" I still tease her as we sit together on the sofa. She's facing me, looking at me with those warm, comforting, and deep dark eyes that were once so cold and piercing.
Those eyes were now warm and welcoming. So different but tender.
"I don't know," she shrugs. "It just comes naturally, maybe because it's you."
I hum, settling myself down on her lap, facing her. She's looking at me softly, her fingers stroking the curls of my hair, and I love the comfortable silence between us. It's so peaceful. So pleasant.
"Unnie," she calls me softly. "Do you have any wishes?"
"Wishes?" I echo, thinking about it.
"Mhm."
"What kind of wishes are you referring to?"
"Honestly, to anything. Like your dream dates, countries you wish to visit and explore, or anything you wish to experience once in a lifetime."
I cover my mouth, surprised. Is she going to ask me for a date? Is this the same Haerin from weeks ago? I don't believe it!
"For dates, I prefer picnics and going to the beach," I say confidently. Doing both with Haerin must be a dream. "How about you?" I ponder.
