Happily ever afters are known for their end in stories. The last page is turned, and all the characters are supposed to be happy in some sort of fashion. Yet, in this tale, the journey to that blissful conclusion was just as enchanting as the ending itself.
Five years ago, my best friend made the decision to run off with the son of a villain. Three years ago, they got married. Seven months ago, she announced she was having a child.
In the span of five years, the daughter of Rapunzel got the happily ever after she always dreamed of. The wedding was a magical affair, held in a quaint chapel overlooking the sea.
The kingdom of Auradon found its balance with Uma as principal of Auradon Prep. Everyone went on with their life, found some sort of happiness, and that should have been the end of our story.
But sometimes, happily ever afters are only the beginning.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Uma?" I asked her that day. She was scheduled to meet with the Fairy Godmother in a few minutes, but what the daughter of Ursula had in mind was something beyond my imagination.
"It's what Carlos would have wanted." She states before walking through a set of double doors.
The loss of Carlos was hard for everyone, especially Jane. Losing someone like him was like a dark thundercloud overlooking the prettiest sunflower field. It took a toll on every person in the lands.
I shrug my shoulders, allowing the weight of the daily burdens to rest upon my shoulders. Each day brought new challenges, from the endless stream of emails to the relentless deadlines that loomed like storm clouds on the horizon. The demands of work, the needs of family, and the expectations of our pressed society seemed to press down on me, each burden a stone added to an already heavy load.
But this was only the beginning of what would soon become a lifetime's worth of fighting for love and the struggles that come from once upon a time.
