Alex had been eager to introduce Claire to his friends. They had been bugging him for weeks about the woman who had him smiling so much and dazing off during conversations. Finally, he asked Claire if she would like to meet them, and she agreed with a mix of excitement and nerves.

They decided to host the gathering at Alex's house. Claire arrived early, wanting to make a good impression. She brought ingredients to bake a cake, hoping to share a bit of herself through her baking. As she mixed the batter, the doorbell rang.

Alex was outside setting up the grill, so Claire answered the door. Standing there was a tall man with a broad grin and a booming voice.

"Hi there! You must be Claire. I'm Tom," he said, extending his hand.

"Nice to meet you, Tom," Claire replied, shaking his hand. She instantly liked his loud but lovable personality.

Tom followed her into the kitchen, chatting animatedly as she continued baking. He offered to help set the table, and they worked together seamlessly, laughing and sharing stories. Claire felt at ease with him, appreciating his warmth and friendliness.

As they finished setting the table, the doorbell rang again. This time, two men stood at the door. They were quieter than Tom but greeted Claire with friendly smiles.

"Hi, I'm Mark," said the first, shaking her hand.

"And I'm Sam," added the second, giving her a nod.

Claire welcomed them in, and they joined her and Tom in the kitchen. The four of them quickly fell into a deep discussion about travel, favourite books, and funny anecdotes from their lives. Claire found herself enjoying their company immensely.

Alex stepped in from the backyard, pausing for a moment as he saw Claire getting along so well with his friends. His heart swelled with affection and pride. These friends were actually former teammates and rival players he had always gotten along with, but he knew Claire wouldn't recognize them as former professional football players. He had told his friends about Claire's disinterest in football, so it didn't come as a surprise to them when she didn't recognize them.

They spent the afternoon eating Claire's delicious cake and talking about anything and everything but football. The conversation flowed effortlessly, and laughter filled the room. Alex watched Claire interact with his friends, feeling a deep sense of contentment. He fell a little more in love with her, seeing how well she fit into his world.

At one point, Claire excused herself to use the restroom. As soon as she was out of earshot, Tom, Mark, and Sam turned to Alex with grins on their faces.

"She's amazing, Alex," Tom said, clapping him on the back. "You've got a good one."

"Yeah, she's great," Mark agreed. "You two seem perfect together."

Sam nodded. "You've got our approval, mate."

Alex smiled, feeling a surge of happiness. "Thanks, guys. She means a lot to me."

When Claire returned, they continued their lively conversation, enjoying the rest of the afternoon together. As the evening approached, Alex's friends began to leave, each one giving Claire a warm goodbye and expressing their hope to see her again soon.

After everyone had left, Alex and Claire settled on the couch, cuddling together. They reminisced about the afternoon, sharing their thoughts and feelings.

"Your friends are wonderful," Claire said, resting her head on Alex's shoulder. "I had a great time."

"They loved you," Alex replied, kissing the top of her head. "And so do I."

Claire smiled, feeling a deep sense of happiness and belonging. "I love you too, Alex."

They sat in comfortable silence, enjoying the warmth of each other's presence. The day had been a success, and they both felt more connected than ever. As they looked forward to their future together, they knew they had the support of their friends and the strength of their love to guide them.
