The days following Alex's departure were challenging for Claire. She missed him terribly, but they made a point to talk on the phone as much as possible. Their conversations ranged from mundane daily updates to deep discussions about their future. Alex's voice was a constant source of comfort, and Claire found herself looking forward to their calls each day.

"How was your day?" Alex would ask, his voice warm and reassuring.

"Busy," Claire would reply, often recounting the latest chaos in the ER. "But hearing your voice makes it better."

"I miss you," Alex would say, his tone filled with longing. "I can't wait to be back with you."

Despite the distance, their bond grew stronger. Claire also began to build friendships with Alex's friends, including Tom and James. They would occasionally meet for coffee or dinner, and Claire appreciated their support and camaraderie.

One evening, as Claire was chatting with Tom and James at a local café, she brought up the upcoming anniversary of Alex's parents' death. "I want to do something special when we visit their graves," she said, her voice thoughtful. "Any ideas?"

Tom and James exchanged glances before James spoke up. "How about bringing flowers and a letter? You could write a message to them, sharing how much Alex means to you."

Claire smiled, touched by the suggestion. "That's a beautiful idea. Thank you."

As the anniversary approached, Claire spent time writing a heartfelt letter to Alex's parents. She poured her feelings onto the paper, expressing her gratitude for Alex and her commitment to supporting him. She also picked out a bouquet of white lilies, knowing they were Alex's favourite flowers.

Meanwhile, Claire faced increasing challenges at work. Word had spread about her relationship with Alex, and some people began showing up at the ER just to see her. They would take pictures, ask intrusive questions, and even try to get information about Alex and his friends. It was exhausting and overwhelming.

One particularly busy day, Claire found herself surrounded by a group of people asking for selfies and autographs. She tried to remain professional, but the constant attention was taking its toll. "Please, I need to focus on my patients," she said, her voice strained.

After her shift, Claire called Alex, her voice trembling with exhaustion. "It's getting worse, Alex. People are coming to the ER just to see me. I don't know how much more I can take."

Alex's heart ached for her. "I'm so sorry, Claire. I wish I could be there to help. Just remember, you're amazing, and you're doing an incredible job. We'll get through this together."

To lift her spirits, Alex sent her little surprises each day. One morning, Claire found a bouquet of her favourite flowers waiting for her at the nurses' station. Another day, a box of her favourite chocolates arrived with a sweet note from Alex. Each gesture brought a smile to her face and reminded her of his love and support.

Despite the challenges, Claire remained determined. She leaned on her friends for support and focused on her work, knowing that Alex would be back soon. The day of the anniversary finally arrived, and Claire felt a mix of emotions as she prepared to visit Alex's parents' graves.

She met Alex at the cemetery, and they walked hand in hand to the gravesite. Claire placed the bouquet of lilies on the grave and handed Alex the letter she had written. "I wrote this for your parents," she said softly. "I wanted to share how much you mean to me."

Alex's eyes filled with tears as he read the letter. He pulled Claire into a tight embrace, his voice choked with emotion. "Thank you, Claire. This means so much to me."

They spent the afternoon at the cemetery, sharing memories and honouring Alex's parents. It was a deeply emotional experience, but it brought them even closer together.

As they left the cemetery, Alex turned to Claire, his eyes filled with love and gratitude. "I don't know what I would do without you. Thank you for being here with me."

Claire smiled, feeling a deep sense of contentment. "We'll always be here for each other, Alex. No matter what."

The weeks that followed were filled with a renewed sense of hope and strength. Claire and Alex continued to support each other through the ups and downs, knowing that their love would help them overcome any challenge. And as they looked forward to their future together, they knew that they could face anything as long as they had each other.
