The Hogwarts Express chugged steadily along the tracks, the familiar red engine winding its way through the lush, rolling hills and dense forests. Mattheo Riddle sat in a compartment with his fellow Slytherins, his thoughts a whirl of anticipation and excitement. It was the start of another year at Hogwarts, and while he had long since grown accustomed to the journey, there was always a certain thrill that accompanied it.Mattheo stared out the window, the scenery a blur of greens and blues. He had always been known for his quiet demeanor, a stark contrast to his father, the infamous Tom Riddle. Despite sharing the same surname, Mattheo had carved out his own identity at Hogwarts, one that was defined more by his own choices and less by the legacy of his father.
As the train continued its journey, a movement in the corridor caught Mattheo's eye. He glanced over and saw a girl standing outside the compartment door, looking slightly lost. His heart skipped a beat as recognition dawned. It was you, his childhood friend from before he had come to Hogwarts. The years had been kind to you, and he was struck by how much you had changed and yet remained the same.
Without thinking, Mattheo stood up and slid the compartment door open. "Y/N?" he called out, his voice tinged with surprise.
You turned, your eyes widening in recognition and delight. "Mattheo! I can't believe it's you!"
You stepped into the compartment, and he could see the excitement in your eyes. "It's been so long," you said, a smile lighting up your face. "I didn't know you were at Hogwarts."
Mattheo smiled back, feeling a warmth spread through him. "Yeah, I've been here for a while now. What about you? I didn't know you were coming to Hogwarts this year."
You nodded, taking a seat across from him. "I just transferred. My parents thought it would be a better fit for me here."
Mattheo's friends looked on curiously, but he paid them no mind. For the first time in a long while, he felt a sense of genuine happiness. "It's really good to see you again, Y/N."
As the train journeyed on, you and Mattheo caught up, reminiscing about old times and sharing stories about your lives since you had last seen each other. The easy camaraderie you had shared as children quickly returned, and Mattheo found himself drawn to you in a way he hadn't expected.
The train pulled into Hogsmeade Station, and you and Mattheo disembarked, making your way to the carriages that would take you to the castle. The excitement of seeing Hogwarts for the first time was evident on your face, and Mattheo couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in being able to share this experience with you.
As the carriages rolled up the path to the castle, Mattheo stole glances at you, noting the way your eyes sparkled with wonder. He had always thought of you as a friend, but now he couldn't deny the growing feelings stirring within him.
When you reached the castle, you were ushered into the Great Hall for the Sorting Ceremony. Mattheo watched with bated breath as you stepped forward to be sorted. The hat deliberated for a moment before declaring, "Slytherin!"
A cheer erupted from the Slytherin table, and Mattheo couldn't help but feel a surge of relief and joy. You made your way over to the table and took a seat next to him, your smile wide and bright.
"I'm a Slytherin," you said, still in disbelief.
"Welcome to the house," Mattheo replied, his heart pounding in his chest. "I knew you belonged here."
Over the next few weeks, you settled into life at Hogwarts, quickly becoming a part of the Slytherin community. Mattheo was always by your side, helping you navigate the intricacies of the school and its many traditions. The two of you spent countless hours together, whether in the common room, the library, or exploring the castle's many secrets.
Mattheo's feelings for you grew with each passing day, but he struggled to find the right moment to tell you. He didn't want to risk ruining the friendship you had rekindled, but he couldn't ignore the way his heart raced whenever you were near.
One evening, as you sat together by the fire in the Slytherin common room, you turned to Mattheo with a thoughtful expression. "Do you ever wonder about the future?" you asked softly.
Mattheo looked at you, his heart aching with unspoken words. "All the time," he admitted. "Especially now."
You smiled, a hint of curiosity in your eyes. "What do you mean?"
Taking a deep breath, Mattheo decided it was time to be honest. "I mean, especially now that you're here. Seeing you again has made me think about what I want in life, and... well, I realize that I want you to be a part of it."
Your eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, Mattheo feared he had made a terrible mistake. But then you smiled, a warmth in your gaze that made his heart soar.
"I've missed you, Mattheo," you said softly. "And being here with you... it feels right."
Mattheo's heart swelled with happiness. "I've missed you too, Y/N. More than I realized."
As you sat together, the firelight casting a warm glow over you, Mattheo felt a sense of contentment he hadn't known in a long time. With you by his side, he knew that the future held endless possibilities, and he was ready to face them, one step at a time.
