The dim light of the Slytherin common room flickered from the torches on the stone walls. The usual buzz of students going about their evening activities created a comforting backdrop of noise. Theodore Nott, a reserved but sharp-witted Slytherin, was nestled in one of the plush armchairs, his eyes focused on a book that he was only half-reading. The other half of his attention was occupied with thoughts of Alaina Riddle, the enigmatic younger sister of Tom and Mattheo Riddle.
Theodore and Alaina had been seeing each other in secret for months. Their meetings were stolen moments, hidden from prying eyes. Alaina was a quiet but intense presence, her eyes reflecting a depth of emotion and strength that intrigued Theodore. Despite the Riddle name and the shadow it cast over her, Alaina had managed to capture Theodore's heart.
Tonight, they were supposed to meet in the abandoned classroom on the fourth floor, their favorite secret spot. Theodore's heart raced as he anticipated their meeting. He'd just finished writing her a note, a small gesture to show his affection, when a commotion at the entrance of the common room drew his attention.
Tom and Mattheo Riddle, notorious figures in Hogwarts with a reputation that preceded them, walked in. They were not alone. A group of students surrounded them, eager to soak up their attention. Theodore tensed, knowing how dangerous it could be if Tom or Mattheo discovered his secret."Is it true that you've been seeing someone from another house?" Tom's voice cut through the murmurs.
Mattheo smirked. "Tom, you know that's not how it works. People keep their secrets safe if they know what's good for them."
Theodore's blood ran cold. He slipped his note into his pocket, trying to stay inconspicuous. He knew he had to be careful. But the situation worsened when Tom's piercing gaze swept across the room and landed directly on Theodore."Speak of the devil," Tom said, his eyes narrowing as he approached Theodore. Mattheo followed, an amused expression on his face.
Theodore stood up, trying to maintain his composure. "What's going on?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
Tom's eyes were cold and calculating. "We were just having an interesting conversation about secrets and those who keep them."
Mattheo leaned closer, his tone mocking. "And here you are, looking more nervous than usual. Care to explain why?"
Before Theodore could respond, Alaina appeared at the entrance of the common room, her face pale as she noticed the gathering. Her eyes locked with Theodore's, a mix of anxiety and determination evident in her expression.Tom's gaze shifted to her, and he raised an eyebrow. "Ah, Alaina. How convenient. I was just about to ask if there's anyone you've been seeing lately."Alaina swallowed hard, stepping forward. "Theodore and I have been seeing each other," she admitted, her voice steady but low.
Tom's eyes narrowed, his expression darkening. "I see. And here I was, hoping to avoid any more unnecessary complications. It appears you've made things rather difficult for us."
Mattheo's smirk faded, replaced by a calculating look. "You know the rules, Theodore. And you, Alaina, should have known better."
Theodore's heart sank. "We didn't mean to cause any trouble. We just wanted to be together."
Tom's gaze softened slightly, though his tone remained firm. "Love and secrecy are a dangerous combination, Theodore. You both knew the risks."
Alaina stepped closer to Theodore, her hand reaching for his. "We're willing to face the consequences. We just wanted a chance to be together without being constantly watched."
Tom's eyes flickered with a mix of irritation and grudging respect. "Very well. You'll have to be cautious from now on. We can't have this affecting our plans."Mattheo nodded in agreement. "And if you're smart, you'll keep a low profile. We don't want any more disruptions."
The tension in the room was palpable as Tom and Mattheo turned and walked away, leaving Theodore and Alaina standing together, their hands intertwined.Theodore squeezed Alaina's hand gently. "We'll get through this," he said quietly.
Alaina nodded, her eyes filled with determination. "We have to. We've come too far to turn back now."As they left the common room together, their secret now exposed, they knew that the road ahead would be challenging. But with each other's support, they were prepared to face whatever obstacles lay ahead, united in their defiance against the shadows of their world.
