The Tree

I remember when I'd run around that tree and hide behind it while I played hide and seek with the neighborhood kids I called my friends, but you cut it down.

I remember walking home from school and that tree's beautiful green leaves would be hanging over the street, I've appreciated its beauty ever since. But you cut it down.

I remember when me and my friends would be riding bikes, playing tag, and walking around. That tree was always there waiting at the street corner, growing old with us. But you cut it down.

I remember circling that tree alone when nobody else wanted to play with me, it sat at the end of the yard where an old friend used to live, I've loved that tree and I remember feeling its bark beneath my fingertips, but you cut it down.

I remember when we'd run up the street trying to grab a leaf that hung just too high for our hands to reach even after we jumped as high as we could. I'll never forget meeting up with my old friends when I sat under it, but you cut it down.

I remember when my old friends, who where no longer people I considered friends, moved away. Yet you stood tall with all of our memories built up within you, so big and beautiful. But you cut it down.

I remember looking at you, and looking at the people cutting it down, so loud and heart breaking I just had to sit and cry, your peices filling the street and not one leaf in sight. I couldn't do anything to stop you being cut down, I had to watch as my childhood was destroyed and all the memories with it because you cut it down.

I remember you, I remember your beautiful bright green leaves, and your beautiful mossy bark. Now all I see when I look at you is an uneven cut stump, sitting there with your countlesss rings to remind me of the past, showing your life along with mine. You are no longer standing tall with leaves as beautiful as can be, I wish I got to say goodbye before the chainsaws reached your precious heart. The symbol of my childhood, the symbol of life.

Why did you have to cut it down?
