Lying in the hospital bed, I felt a mix of emotions - numbness and embarrassment. It was hard to believe how quickly my day had taken a turn for the worse. Koa and my dad's questions lingered in my mind, making me realize why I had distanced myself from them over the years. Despite the vote to cast me out, I knew they would have visited me in prison. Deep down, I knew they would break through the tough exterior I had built up since John's death, and I couldn't afford to let that happen. All I wanted was for them to come through that door and let me sink into their arms, God I wanted Jackson to come and hold me at this very moment, to feel that safety and reassurance of my family right now was all I desired. But I had to push them away. I had to keep the past in the past.

I looked to my right as I heard the door open and my breath caught in my chest as I saw the blur of blond hair coming into the room, it wasn't who I thought it was, and the disappointment showed on my face.

"Don't look so disappointed sweetheart, I brought snacks from the vendor." With a smile, Casey held up a couple of packets of candy, which lifted my spirits. Casey had been with me all night, and I was under no illusion that if not for him, I would be in a bigger state than I was currently in.

"Hey, Come here and share them Skettles." I quipped.

"Nah, these are all for me." Casey helped me up into a sitting position.

The door opened again and a woman with short reddish hair and glasses came in, she had a power suit on and my nerves started to rise as I thought it might be someone from the parole board. She looked down at the clipboard in her hand and settled to stand at the bottom of my bed.

"Can we help you?" Casey asked.

"Yes. My name is Margaret Murphy I am the administrator here at St. Thomas Hospital, I am afraid you do not have the insurance to stay another night in our care unfortunately, we are going to have to ask you to start getting ready to leave. Our Doctor has kindly prescribed some painkillers, they should see you though, if not there is an urgent care facility in Stockton."

"I don't think so lady she isn't going anywhere!" Casey barked. I blinked and looked at the woman, her hard face was annoying as shit. But I couldn't wait to get out of this hospital, so the news of my discharge was welcome.

"No, it's okay. I'm ready to leave."

"Well, you know Miss Munson if you sorted your healthcare you wouldn't be in this position."

I don't know if it was the bump on the head or the fact I'd had enough of being treated like shit, but the words were out before I could take them back.

"Listen here red, I could pay for the piss poor treatment I've had in this shithole 10 times over. I wouldn't want to stay here for any longer than I have to, so I will happily pack my shit and get out of here, why don't you do the same and piss off, don't fly that broomstick into a wall on your way out!"
