MANON LOOKED AROUND SAM AND COLBY'S HOUSE ON NEW YEAR'S EVE. They'd invited all their friends to the massive party, and she'd already met most of them.
Her sister had gone off somewhere and Madeleine was talking with Amanda Bartlett. Gracie was at home because she was exhausted and didn't want to come.
"Manon!"
She turned to see Sam with a grin on his face. "Oh, hey."
"You alright?" He asked, the smile fading slightly. "What's up?"
"Sorry, I'm good," she laughed. "I zoned out for a bit."
The grin returned. "Good to hear. Have you seen Colby, he disappeared like ten minutes ago."
"Same time Aurelie ran off," Manon shook her head. "Five bucks says they're together."
"I'm not taking that bet, Manon."
She laughed, shrugging. "How long until the big countdown?"
"Like fifteen seconds!"
"Oh!"
They both ran to the backyard to find their friends.
"Ten!"

Manon laughed as around her people through cups in the air and couples embraced. Sam grinned at her and pointed out Aurelie and Colby, causing them both to laugh.
"2023," she mumbled, looking around. "Wonder what's coming."
"The Eras Tour?" Sam's smile was contagious. He was clearly still hung up on the fact he'd be performing for Swifties. They would both be.
"You know, I've got a single," she stated, looking up at him. "I don't think I'll release it though, it's not my favourite."
"Oh come on!"
She laughed, shaking her head. "You're a crazy person."
"Says the one who just decided to not release music."
"Shut your mouth."
