As the day began, I couldn't get some of the most important people off of my mind; Adam and Kate. Me and my family were heading off to a Kansas City Royals game for my brother's birthday in a few hours. I decide to FaceTime my true sister in a time of distress. Caroline.

As she picks up, she's propped up against my water bottle, facing me in my closet searching for anything royal blue. "Hey, I haven't talked to you in forever," I hear her exclaim. "Oh my God, I know. I've been so busy." I explain. I turn to walk back to my phone, holding a blue crop top and denim skirt. "This cute?" I ask tilting my head, imagining it on me in the mirror. "So cute." I sigh as I though it on my bed and sit down at my vanity, focusing all my attention to Caroline.

"What's the face for?" She asks, she's always been able to read me like a book. "Hm?" I hum, trying to hide the fact I'm stuck, "Mace, don't lie to me. What's up with you?" She questions me with attitude, annoyed with the fact I thought I could get past her. "Alright, so basically I hooked up with this-" She gasped, before running to shut her door, "Woah, never knew I'd see this side of you..." She grins. "Yeah yeah, whatever." I roll my eyes, "He's super sweet and very attractive, but y'know my friend Kate?" she nods, "She's been really weird recently, like weird." Widening my eyes to give Caroline the hint on how she's been acting. "Maybe your just making it weird. Adam seems swooned with you based off of your post. So, why are you confused?" I stay silent, trying to digest what she just asked.

Before I can collect my thoughts, she breaks the silence, "Oh my, so your like confused-confused..." I face the screen, covering my face with my hands. "I don't know what to do, I don't want to lead him on, or Kate." I say in frustration, "Well, let's start off with how Kate acts around you." I nod. I begin to explain the night I had with her just two days ago. I kept rationalizing for both Kate and I, using the excuse that we were wine drunk. Caroline kept throwing out 'drunk words, sober thoughts' but there wasn't really any words. It was all actions.

Who knows, maybe she's really touchy when she's drunk? Maybe it's just her personality? "You can use the excuse that y'all were drunk all you want, but I think miss money martin is onto you..." She speaks her mind while winking with a big grin. I roll my eyes, still thinking about what my best friend just said. Is she though?

Driving home from Iowa City gave me the perfect amount of time to drown in my thoughts. Thoughts filled with my best friend, my best friend who is head over heels for some frat dude. Sure, he was good looking, but I'm scared for her since she's only known him for a few days. I would hate to give her up, knowing I'm starting to feel things for her. More than what I feel for Gabbie, Jada, or Caitlin.

She's such a bright individual, although she's only been in Iowa for about three weeks, she's already made her impact on several people around her. In our workouts in the morning, despite it being 8 a.m, she's laughing and making her laps around to her teammates and other girls on the basketball team. Whether it's encouraging them or making small talk, it's inevitable that everyone there loves her. Even the basketball coaches talk to her, probably just as much or more than her soccer coaches. Making it obvious that she's not only a leader, but a beautiful person. I hardly get jealous, but seeing her tan skin glow in my apartment with the natural light, makes me shiver at the thought knowing Adam gets to see it in all lighting. He can touch her without it being weird, he gets all access to her lips and her cheeks. I don't get that, and I don't know if I ever will.

As much as I want to be more, for now I'll just be her biggest fan from the sidelines. Waiting for her when something falls through.

About 45 minutes out from home, my phone starts ringing. A girl I can hardly stand. Gianna Herren. Haven't talked to her in weeks voluntarily and she still thinks I want something with her. Does she think I'm still on with her after I caught her all up on a football athlete? "Yo," I answer the phone with annoyance, "Heyyyy, I just wanted to check up with you." I roll my eyes at the noise of her voice. It's like a fly flying around your head. "Mkay?" I respond with attitude, trying to force the hint but it's clearly flying over her head, "If your gonna give me attitude, I'll return the favor. Real talk, have you found anyone better than me yet?" She asks I can hear her petty tone through the speakers in my car. I was one second away from just hanging up on her, before she gave me a reason not to. "I'll take that as a no." She responds to the silence and begins laughing, "Alright, nah. That's what we're not gonna do." I chuckle in disbelief.
"Do what? Tell me, Kate." Gianna says. Annoyed.
"Act like I didn't, not only catch you, but call you out for your shit!" I'm yelling at this point. "The shit being practically groping some dude at a bar." I hear her scoff through the phone, "And don't try to deny it. I have messages and messages, Gianna. Now take the fucking hint and leave me alone." I leave her silence. I settle down, lower the heat. "Alright, bye." I angrily hang up and breathe out. "Lord have mercy." I say out loud followed with a sigh.

I made it home. Ready to relax with my family after a long and exhausting couple weeks. I love my friends, but I needed a break from hearing Jada and Caitlin constantly nag at me for everything. My phone pings, honestly expecting Gianna to pop up on my screen. A smile grows on my face as I see it's Macey.

Just shortly after, my best friend starts calling me. I pick it up, a smile still on my face. "Hey," she cuts off her own greeting, "who's got you all smiley?" she asks me. She caught me smiling about the thought of my best friend. I shrug her off, just shaking my head her way. "Mkay, Martin." She says, suspect of me.

I simply just watch her as she gets ready; her education over hair and makeup is way better than mine. "How's Adam?" I choke out. "Uhm, good. I don't know?" She almost seems disappointed but then randomly starts chuckling, "oh my God, he legit thinks I'm from Kansas." I raise my eyebrows. "Yeah, I know. He texted me saying he 'misses his Kansas girl' " she laughs, using quotations. I just laugh along with her, knowing all the changes her family has been through just her whole life. "That's actually so funny. Have you just not explained it all to him or..." I ask her, hoping this is his first slip up. "No, I haven't told him. He just knows my family lives in Kansas, y'know?" I nod, continuing to watch her beauty grow with each gram of makeup she puts on.

An hour or so on FaceTime ends. Long conversations about basketball, family, and of course; Adam. I guess he's not reaching out as much as she thought he would. She won't stop standing up for him. Saying "oh, he must just be busy on the farm". Or maybe he just doesn't want to talk to you? I realize what I've just thought, horrible of me. God, she's going to be the death of me.
