Total darkness enveloped them as he extinguished the fire. The silence was deafening; he could hear the river flowing and the forest's rustling leaves. Faint, heavy footsteps grew louder and louder, and whimpering chuffs turned into frightening growls. He waited, able to see a little by the light of the blue moon, the Celestial of Magic's presence strong.

When he finally caught a glimpse of it, he was terrified. It shook him to his core, making him tremble in fear. A gigantic northern brown bear had picked up their scent, its jaws dripping with saliva as hunger gnawed at it from within. Scars covered the bear's body, with a fresh scratch on its face. It was terrifying.

The bear's nose was ruined from a previous encounter, leaving it reliant solely on its eyesight. Once he saw the wound on the bear's nose, he grabbed the heavy greatsword and moved slowly closer, aiming to injure one of its legs. He inched closer, making little to no sound as he carried the massive greatsword, supported by his shoulders.

When he was close enough, and the greatsword was within range, he slashed at the massive bear's left thigh, cutting through the knee and creating a huge wound. The bear roared in pain and started to go into a frenzy.

His mother awoke and started to look for her son, who had vanished into the darkness. The campfire was extinguished, and she feared for her son's life.

The bear saw him and charged, frenzied. The boy started running to create distance and look for an opening. The bear couldn't walk or run properly due to the massive wound in its left thigh. The bear was in intense pain, tracking the boy with its eyes until he vanished into the forest.

All the bear could hear and see were the trees surrounding it and the loud footsteps circling it.

The boy approached from behind and slashed the bear's back, injuring its spine. Now the bear could no longer move its lower body. The boy vanished into the darkness once again. The bear kept roaring in pain, its frenzy unabated.

The boy ran towards the bear, aiming to cut off its head. As he closed the distance, ready to swing, the bear anticipated the attack and knocked him to the ground with its massive paw and claws. The claws pierced his chest effortlessly. The boy coughed up blood, his body crushed under the bear's massive weight.

The boy lay on the ground, bleeding from his chest, hearing his mother screaming and searching for him through the darkness. As he tried to call for his mother to run away with the horse, the bear bit into his throat, tearing his neck open with its powerful jaws, and then started to rip off his right arm.

His arm was torn away and the bear began devouring his face. He was still alive as the bear ate him. His body became a mangled, butchered corpse, with his guts spilling out. His left leg was torn off and consumed by the bear as well.

The bear struggled to eat properly, having difficulty tearing apart the boy's body. Weakened by the massive wound on its left thigh and the cut on its back, which had severed its spine and rendered its lower body immobile, the bear was unable to move effectively. Both died quickly later onwards from their wounds. And the bear lay down and started to rest. Unable to move, weakened by massive cuts and wounds. The bear started to die slowly in agonizing pain while the boy bleed to death with his gory wounds.

The boy died later on. He was unrecognizable when his mother found him with the dead bear aside. Her mother fell to her knees and starting weeping for the loss of her only remaining son. Her heart forever broken and crushed to pieces.
