The car lurched through a tunnel of vibrant flower arches, casting the world in a dreamy pink glow. Bursting out the other side, Annie gasped. Nestled amongst the colossal mountains, a fantastical town sprawled out before them – Mehville! It wasn't your average mountain town. Two and three-story wooden houses clung to the slopes, punctuated by quirky shops selling everything from watches to Viking boat rides (seriously, a Viking boat ride!). At the town's heart stood a giant park with a gushing fountain, and a towering Ferris wheel promised breathtaking views.

As they cruised past a neighborhood choked with towering pines, Annie's heart hammered with excitement. Finally, they pulled up to their new home – a two-story log cabin with a glass wall on the top floor, revealing a glimpse of stunning mountain vistas. "Oh. My. Gosh!" she shrieked, practically vibrating with glee. "This is SO freaking awesome! No more grime and city stink for me!"

After a whirlwind of unpacking, a strange feeling washed over Annie – a prickling unease, like a spider scuttling across her neck

After a whirlwind of unpacking, a strange feeling washed over Annie – a prickling unease, like a spider scuttling across her neck. Ignoring it, she hopped online to bask in her recent social media victory. Two haters, obliterated! Their accounts vanished, leaving Annie with a smug grin. But boredom gnawed at her. Venturing outside, she found a peculiar sight in the backyard – a single, gnarled tree with a defiant squirrel clinging to it. As Annie approached, the little rodent, in a spectacular act of disrespect, launched a projectile of epic proportions – a perfect, sticky splat right onto her hand.

Shrieking, Annie danced a jig to dislodge the furry missile and the offending squirrel. Rushing inside, she blasted the offending area with a hose, her mind still wrestling with the lingering ick factor. Then, out of the corner of her eye, a flash of white caught her attention. Perched precariously on a branch was a creepy doll, its porcelain face vacant and unsettling. Goosebumps erupted across Annie's skin as she hesitantly reached for it.

Just then, her mom's voice boomed through the house, "Annie! Dinner's ready! Our lovely neighbor brought over the most incredible chicken dish – soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaves, potatoes, boiled egg... what do you think it's called?"

what do you think it's called?"

Night fell, blanketing Mehville in a cloak of stars. Curled up in bed, Annie couldn't shake the image of the creepy doll. Where did it come from? Who put it there? Unease gnawed at her, but exhaustion won the battle, and she drifted off to sleep. However, her dreams were far from peaceful. Tonight, Mehville wouldn't be a haven of mountain magic, but a world of lurking shadows and unsettling secrets. The adventure, it seemed, was just beginning.
