𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 I saw her was like spotting a gazelle drinking water by the river as the morning sun cast a shine on the surface; unaware of a hunter creeping and closing in for its next kill. However...I'm no killer. But she may be.

The ring of the bell notified the coffee shop of my entrance. Some never notice me which is fine. I like it that way. The less I'm seen, the less paranoid I am.

It's always full, this bakery. I can see why. Everything is nineties aesthetic, there's central air, jazz for greeting music and the pastries exceed all limits of good.

It's phenomenal.

I stood in line, counting the time I'd have to wait until it's time for me to order. But I already know what I want. I get it every time. Black coffee with extra extra sugar, although it's not extra enough for me which leads me to stick my pale fingers in the condiments bowl for sugar packets, and a slice of strawberry cheesecake.

Phenomenal.

My eyes dart around, intaking every single detail I've already studied so many times before. When I looked back at the counter, my heart stopped.

No, this isn't a part of my routine. Why are they switching out? It's always that loud mouth girl with the blonde hair that serves me. She may smile and serve me energetically, but she mutters a "creep", every time I walk away, thinking I won't hear her.

But I know that she wants me to hear her.

I'm two people away and my fingers are tingling. Do I leave now or do I commit to this? I really want it, but I don't want to be served by you. Not yet. It's too soon, far too soon.

And before I knew it.

"Morning, welcome to Tasty's, my name's Y/N, what can I get for you this morning?" She asks with a smile. I didn't look up, my head stayed to the clean tan tiles and my fists were clenched tightly.

This was not apart of my plan of greeting myself. I wanted it to be different, mysterious in a way.

"Can I help you sir?"

So innocent, but I know you're not. You can fool everyone else in here, but not me. I've seen you many times, walking and driving places a woman shouldn't be by herself. That tells me that you don't feel anyone. It shows the world that if you are tested in any way, you'll greet them with something unexpected.

But I could be overthinking it all. Then again I'm no fool. "Umm...a black coffee..e-extra sugar please. With a slice of chocolate cake." Chocolate cake!? I never order chocolate cake.

Cheesecake Lawliet, cheesecake. Correct yourself.

"Alright that'll be fourteen eightyfive." She beams. I fiddled with the crumpled twenty in my sweater pocket. How pathetic I've become in close proximity. I'm usually not like this, Y/N, I promise.

But you do me peculiarism. The feeling I get inside is normally a feeling I get when I experience a new sort of sweetness. Arousal. Excitement.

I handed it to her and she took it. I took a chance and peaked up. Her eyes are on the register, a slight smile on her face. Her skin glistened and her dark eyes looked like a cup full of hot coco on Christmas night.

"Here you go." She extended her hand and I just stuck my hand in the bowl for my extra sugar I know they won't add. I curried over to my usual window table and took a seat.

It's good to sit here. It's got a view outside and my back is always turned away from her. I just listen and analyze until closing time.

I gazed at the packs of sugar and counted five. I need more. There was a clank and I was startled. I gazed up and I nearly ran off. It's her again. Y/N.

"Your order sir. You ran off without your change too." She set it down and grinned. "Also, I don't know if you know but there's a no hoodie policy."

No, definitely not how I wanted us to meet. Hesitant I pulled my hoodie down, the cool breeze touching me face.

"Thank you. May I ask your name sir?"

I didn't look at her as I took the fork between my fingers. "L." My words were low and choppy.

"El?" I nod. Go away Y/N, please. You smell good...like batter and cherries. Fresh baked bread. I could smell whip cream on you and sugar.

"Okay El, don't stay too long now." She says with a grin before walking off. I couldn't help but to ponder on that statement.

Don't stay for too long.

I looked back at her as she wavered past tables to head back to her station. Do you not want me here? Is that it?

My eyes reached the chocolate cake in front of me and finally I sunk the fork into it. I ate and frowned. I wasn't disappointed at all.

The texture, the warmth of the melted chocolate inside. I could fuck this cake.
