Killed off for the sake of the plot being evolved, for the sake of being able to envoke any kind of emotion from the glorified chosen one, who grew—void of any warmth or indication of him possesing a soul. She's the last piece of the puzzle to be carved into this tiny event, to make this whole imagery of this centered man; finally succumbing into the darknest. Filled with grief and life, he laments her death, he breathes and griefs as she stays silent, as she stays dead.
She dies so he can suffer. She dies to improve the narrative, because what else can they do with a woman that's loved?
We watch her die, as she takes her last moments into account. She dies like all the women before her have, being granted with this kind of immortality: "fridged" also means "preserved".
