CHAPTER 13
Ten years later...
It was Lillian's first day of school. She was adorable in her red dress. We were lucky that we finally got her out of last year's Halloween's fairy costume. She had on red flats to match the dress, and I pulled her light blonde hair up in puppy ears. Just like the ones Naomi was wearing when she showed up to my house after coming back from California. I grabbed Lillian's backpack as the three of us walked outside to wait on the bus to get here. She was holding both of our hands, and the bus came down the street stopping at other houses. I bent over and helped Lillian put her back pack on.
"You have a wonderful day at school." I said hugging her.
"Ok mommy." She said. I kissed her on the forehead, and she walked over to Naomi. Who leaned down and kissed her on the cheek, then she gave her a big hug. The bus pulled up, and the three of us had a group hug. Then Lillian walked over and got on the bus.
"I LOVE YOU!" Naomi yelled just as Lillian was getting on the bus. She stopped, turned around, and blew us a kiss. We returned it.
"Our baby's all grown up." I wrapped my arm around Naomi's hand as the bus drove away with our daughter. It was hard, and she started crying into my shoulder. I rubbed her arm to comfort her.
"I can't believe it." She cried.
"It's ok... She'll be back." I assured. "It's only eight hours, baby."
All and all, Lillian was a sweet baby girl growing up in a beautiful, loving home. Naomi and I were glad she ended up looking like her, and not her father... not that it would've mattered. I was happy to see that, despite what Lillian's memory was to Naomi, she never treated her like that. She loved Lillian... very much. Even though Lillian was never my child, I loved her. I loved her... I loved Naomi. There's nothing in this world that I wouldn't do for them. Shit... I'd die for them. They were my true family, and there's nothing in this world that could ever take them from me without a fight. When I thought I'd never find love, I found Naomi. When people ask how we did it... Or love was strong...That was enough for me...
