Neuvillette was left speechless.
It was a helpful offer, indeed, but he couldn't accept anything like that! This wasn't necessarily because he was too embarrassed to face the man properly. Truth be told, yeah, he felt pretty awkward even having this conversation, and sleeping at his house would've made it worse.
But the main reason he couldn't accept his offer was because Neuvillette was too used to his house, making it impossible to live anywhere else. The way his warm bed welcomed him every night... No other bed could ever replace that. When he was young, he tried sleeping at his friends' house multiple times, but he always ended up staying awake the whole night, wishing the morning would come sooner.
As soon as the sun started to rise, he always packed his bags and left in a hurry.
Neuvillette's mom always insisted on him spending time with his friends, but he couldn't let her know this embarrassing piece of information. Not being able to sleep in any other bed except his own was really harsh.
But even with all these cons, he still couldn't bring himself to refuse.
The thought of living next to a possible most wanted criminal haunted his mind. Even if he got to sleep at his own house, in his own bed, he wouldn't get any sleep anyway. The worry level of getting killed was too high and couldn't be avoided.
Perhaps changing some habits wasn't too bad.
'Are you... serious about that?' Neuvillette asked in an unsure tone.
'Why wouldn't I be?' Wriothesley instantly answered. 'I wouldn't enjoy hearing my friend got killed, all while I could do something to help. So tell me, are you interested?'
The way he talked made it harder and harder for Neuvillette to refuse.
'But what about my job? If you live too far away, how will I make it to my job?'
'Far away? You're looking at my house right now.' Wriothesley said, as he pointed to a big building right next to them.
They've been walking around aimlessly, or at least that's what Neuvillette thought. Little did he know that the man before him had completely other plans. This whole time, he brought Neuvillette to his house!
His house wasn't that far away from Palais Mermonia, Neuvillette's workplace. It turns out it wasn't that far away from Neuvillette's house, either, just some streets away. The criminal wouldn't even think Neuvillette was staying somewhere else, and even if they did, at least Neuvillette had Wriothesley with him.
Neuvillette sighed and looked back at the man.
'If you don't mind, then sure. But I need to get some stuff from my house and bring them here. Is that all right?'
'Of course it is, but we can get that done tomorrow. Use some of my stuff until you bring yours here.'
Hearing that, Neuvillette was even more shocked. Not only that he couldn't sleep in his own bed, he couldn't use his own stuff either!
It was a defeat for Neuvillette. He didn't feel like walking all the way back anyway, so he made his way inside Wriothesley's house.
The said man's house was spacious and beautiful on the inside. Almost the entire furniture was painted in black. It was too dark for Neuvillette's liking, but he couldn't say he hated it.
Neuvillette was greeted by a living room. In the living room, there were two couches, a coffee table and a TV. When he looked to his left side, however, he noticed a pair of stairs going up.
'Shall we go to my room?' Wriothesley asked as he made his way to the stairs. Neuvillette nodded and followed after him.
As they both walked, Wriothesley sensed a tint of awkwardness in Neuvillette, so he decided to speak up.
