It's Tuesday and Jisung is zoning out in the back of the grey and barren classroom, not paying attention to his vocal teacher, Mr. Choeng. He was probably telling them about how to use their whole body to sing instead of just their throats because that was all he had been talking about since their first class since school started. Jisung thought of Mr. Choeng as a nice old man of course, but the lessons were starting to bore him from the same thing being taught over again every day. Mr. Choeng said it was to prepare them for their evaluation test but Jisung was just bored.
RIINGG!!!
"Fuck, did the bell just ring?" Jisung said, confused after being kicked out of his thoughts. "I don't even know what he said was for homework!" He was barely paying attention to the class because he kept zoning out just like in all of his other classes. He finally gets up and closes his eyes for a few seconds, trying to get them to stop hurting from not blinking for so long. He takes a deep breath before finally opening his eyes again and starts packing up his stuff until he stops. He spots a bright yellow sticky note that was left on top of his notebook. Looking to see what is on it, he sees some messy yet clean writing scribbled on it.
hey zoned out boy,
look for a song you would like to cover next week as an evaluation test for the homework. we are gonna practice during this period starting tuesday. btw for the evaluation we have to sing in front of the class
-LM
"Huh," Jisung scoffed and smirked. "Thank you the mysterious LM, my savior." He started packing up his stuff again, walked out of the classroom, and down the hall. He sat down on the bench across from the door to his best friend's English class and opened up his laptop to start researching some vocal class appropriate songs to cover. He wanted to do something slow and meaningful so he looked at a few Lana Del Ray songs. That's when he got the idea to use one of the songs he was writing with Chan and Changbin.
He connected his headphones to his laptop and then went to the file he had saved of the song and pressed play. The song was one he was proud of but didn't know how other people would view it and if they would judge him for it. Listening to it he liked it but then he started imagining performing the song in front of the class. A class where he has no friends to keep the negative thoughts away with their energy and compliments. A class where all of the students have backgrounds in singing whereas he has none. Of course, he has been told he was a decent singer, but he never believed it. Even if he got into the Harvard equivalent school for performing and visual arts, he thought he was never going to be as good as other people.
The classroom's door opened but Jisung was getting too worked up about the thought of performing his song to notice it. He started thinking about all of the students' judgmental faces and their eyes on him until his thoughts were interrupted by a hand being placed on his clothed knee and the other on his fidgeting hands. He hadn't even noticed himself picking at the skin on his fingers and his leg bouncing until Felix came and comforted him. Felix didn't know what he was thinking about and didn't want to ask immediately, knowing that his best friend wouldn't answer or would say that it was nothing.
"C'mon man, let's go back to the apartment, I'm TIRED!" Felix loudly complained at the last part.
"Ok dude, let's go. Just let me pack up my stuff," Jisung responded, pausing the song and wrapping up his headphones while Felix decided to be helpful and put Jisung's laptop in his backpack. They got up and started walking out of the building, towards the apartment they rented together.
