Danica Reynolds:
I had always been invisible. At home, at work, at school, everywhere, I'm not seen. I love it. There was this freedom of not being watched, of not needing to please others. All I ever felt was freedom. Unless I'm under the stars, then all I feel is acceptance. The universe understood me more than my own parents and my so-call-friends. They thought they knew me, but deep down, they didn't know my secrets. They didn't know my struggles. They didn't know anything.
"Hurry up, Danica" Pansy called from the hallway before barging into my room, "Ms. Prefect is gonna be late and will have to take off some house points."
"You're just jealous," I laughed, "I'll be right there," I quickly packed my bag and walked out the door. Not having time for breakfast, Pansy and I swiftly walked to class.
I changed my hair to match Pansy's, short and sweet. It was too hot not to have it short.
"I'm so jealous that you can do that," Pansy said.
"That I can change my appearance whenever I want to," I curiously asked.
She shamlessly said, "Yes."
As we approached the classroom, we fell into silence. The door opened with a swipe of Pansy's wand and we took our seperated seats. She always sat next Blaise while I normally sat next to no one. I loved sitting next to no one. It allowed me to focus and not have to be with a partner.
Professor Slughorn walked in, and the room fell silent as everyone got out their books.
"Today class -"
Air moved onto the back of my neck, I turned to see Draco standing at the door. Rage burned into my bones. I looked around the room, and everyone was staring at him.
He wanted this.
Draco loved attention. Ever since I first saw him, I knew that about him. He always brought attention to himself. However, he could.
"Glad to see you're finally joining us," he looked around the room, "Take a seat next to Ms. Reynolds. Anyway, back to what I was saying -"
My hands turned into fists underneath the table.
The table wobbled when he sat his things down, I could already feel the smirk on his face. Dumbfounded, I turned my attention back to Slughorn and tried to ignore my boiling skin.
"Now, get with your partners," he said, turning away from the chalkboard, thanks merlin he wrote it down, "And start working on the potion. This will take us multiple class periods to make, so don't be too harsh on yourselves if you don't get it done today," he finished.
I turned to Draco, "So you grab the supplies and -"
"How about you do all of the work," he interrupted me.
I looked at his eye bags, "Oh, does someone need her beauty sleep?"
"Yes, actually, I'm glad you understand," he crossed his arms on the table and put his head done.
My skin was more than boiling. It was scolding. I couldn't believe him.
Trying to shove my emotions down, I went to the supply closet and grabbed everything I needed.
No matter how much I loved to work alone, if I had a partner, I wanted them to do some work, too.
I started on the potion, following the instructions perfectly.
My mind eased as I continued the potion, my skin started to cool down, and my breath became even.
I heard snoring, I looked next to me and realized that it was Draco. Draco Malfoy slightly snores. Disgusting.
I wanted to pour this boiling potion onto him for actually sleeping. But I fought back the intrusive thoughts, no matter how tempting they were.
Professor Slughorn came by, probably hearing the snoring.
"So, is your partner sleeping," he asked sternly. I nodded, not liking that everyone was staring at me and Draco. I hated him for causing me to be the spotlight, "Well, we'll have to do something about that, won't we? May I," he nodded towards the book, and I agreed.
Professor Slughorn took the book and slammed it onto the desk, causing Draco to sit up quickly.
"If you need some sleep, do it when you're supposed to," Slughorn stated and gave me back my book. Then he was on his way.
Draco gave me a dirty look, "Also, Mr. Malfoy, do better next time to help your partner," Slughorn called from the front of the class.
Everyone snickered, and then the bell rang.
I quickly picked up the hot cluadrin and was walking over to the designated spot until someone bumped it into me. The boiling hot concosion spilled onto the floor and onto me, causing me to scream. My skin started to burn. I looked up to find Draco standing in front of me.
"Better be careful, Reynolds," he threatened, "Of where you're walking, of course," he finished. He nodded and left the classroom.
I could feel my skin start to blister. Slughorn was quickly at my side. He did a few spells to help the burning sensation.
"I'll walk you to the hosptial wing," he insisted.
"No, I can walk myself," I quickly grabbed my things, trying not to further the burning sensation.
Tear threatened my eyes as I walked out of the classroom towards the hospital wing.
That just ruined my day.
