Having a crush on your straight friend was not for the weak. Emily was not only insanely funny and kind, but she was captivatingly beautiful. She had a boyfriend, but you had a feeling he wasn't treating her right, based on the comments he would make. But what could you do about it? You tried to bring up the topic that he maybe was not the best boyfriend to her, but she would just shut it down because you had no real proof of it.
It was the night of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Emily was nominated for a third time. You were positive she would win tonight, but typical Emily thought her chances of taking home an award were low.
You walked the red carpet in a sleek white dress and your eyes drifted down the carpet to see Emily in dark red, with her boyfriend on her arm. It made you sick.
Emily beckons you over to her side and you snap out of your daze, rushing to be near her. She touches your arm, her thumb moving in circles, making your knees feel weak.
"You look so beautiful in that dress." she says genuinely, leaning in close to you.
"Thanks, Em. You look so stunning in red." you say, your eyes following the shape of her gown.
You could feel her boyfriend's gaze on you. Andrew didn't care for you that much. He knew you were a lesbian and it wasn't easy to hide your infatuation with Emily.
He spoke up, "Hey, Em? Why don't we head into the event."
He placed his hand on her lower back and she smiled, turning to face him.
"Yeah let's head in."

Throughout the ceremony, Emily and Andrew were being so flirty and touchy that you couldn't even bear to look at them. It was like he was making sure you knew he was hers.
You were sitting across from them, so you tried your best to just focus on the award show and not the excessive pda on the other side of the table.
It was hard not to look at Emily. One time when you glanced her way you noticed that she looked angry with Andrew. Her demeanor cold and she would lean away every time he would try and whisper in her ear.
Then it was Emily's category and she started to get nervous, fidgeting with her bracelets. You wanted to be next to her so you could comfort her but you just had to sit and watch her anxiousness.
And then it happened, "And the winner is....Emily Blunt!" the announcers voice ringing through the auditorium, making your heart skip a beat.
You immediately stood up and applauded as Emily made her way to the stage to accept the award. On her way up, she walked over to you to give you a hug, nearly making your heart melt as she rubbed your back and you squeezed her waist.
You watch her with awe as she humbly accepts the award, she clearly wasn't expecting it. You can tell she still seemed upset at whatever happened with Andrew, but she didn't let it show. Her speech was short and sweet but the last words she said struck you, "I want to thank one of my best friends, Y/n L/n. Without her support I wouldn't be where I am today, and I am I just forever grateful for you."
Tears threatened to leave her eyes, and you shed a tear as you listened to her speak about you with such reverence.

At the after party you searched all over for Emily, but you couldn't find her. You had found the bar instead, and helped yourself to a drink.
As you sipped on your martini, you noticed Emily across the room. She looked like she had been crying, but she continued to express to whoever she was speaking to that she was happy.
