It started like any other day at school. Katherine, Alicia, and I were hanging out in the courtyard, discussing our latest project for the science fair. We were lost in our own world, oblivious to the chaos that was about to unfold.
Suddenly, a deafening crash shattered the tranquility. We looked up to see a plume of smoke rising from downtown Metropolis. Panic spread like wildfire among the students and teachers. Screams filled the air as everyone scrambled for cover.
"What's going on?" Alicia asked, her voice trembling.
I didn't need super senses to know something was terribly wrong. "Stay here," I told them, my voice firm. "I'll check it out."
Before they could protest, I pulled up the hood of my sweatshirt to obscure my face. I couldn't let anyone recognize me. With a deep breath, I launched myself into the air, flying towards the source of the commotion.
The scene downtown was chaos. Buildings were crumbling, cars were overturned, and debris littered the streets. In the midst of the destruction, two figures stood out: Superman and a metallic, hulking villain I recognized as Metallo. Metallo's chest glowed with a sickly green light—Kryptonite.
Superman was struggling, visibly weakened by the Kryptonite's radiation. Every blow he landed on Metallo seemed to drain his strength further. It was clear that he couldn't hold out much longer.
I clenched my fists, anger boiling inside me. I couldn't stand by and watch Metropolis's hero fall. With a surge of determination, I flew into the fray, positioning myself between Superman and Metallo.
Metallo turned his glowing green eyes toward me, a sneer twisting his metallic features. "Who are you supposed to be?" he taunted. "Another wannabe hero?"
I didn't respond. Instead, I focused on the task at hand. The Kryptonite didn't affect me, which meant I had an advantage. I launched myself at Metallo, landing a powerful punch that sent him stumbling backward.
Metallo recovered quickly, his sneer turning into a snarl. "You'll regret that," he growled, charging at me.
We clashed in a blur of metal and power. Metallo's strength was formidable, but he was no match for me. I dodged his attacks with ease, my speed and agility outmatching his brute force. Each time he tried to land a blow, I countered with a precise strike of my own.
"You're not going to win this," I said, my voice steady. "Not today."
Superman, still weakened but determined, watched from the sidelines. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice strained.
I glanced at him briefly, offering a reassuring smile. "A friend," I replied. "Just hang in there."
With renewed vigor, I focused on Metallo. I needed to end this quickly. Gathering all my strength, I delivered a series of rapid punches, each one pushing Metallo closer to defeat. Finally, I landed a decisive blow to his chest, shattering the Kryptonite core.
Metallo's eyes widened in shock as his power source was destroyed. He crumpled to the ground, his metallic body sparking and twitching. It was over.
I turned to Superman, who was already starting to recover. "Are you okay?" I asked, concern in my voice.
Superman nodded, his strength slowly returning. "Thanks to you," he said, gratitude evident in his eyes. "Whoever you are, Metropolis owes you a debt."
I felt a surge of pride but knew I couldn't reveal my identity. "Just doing my part," I said, pulling my hood lower. "Take care, Superman."
With that, I took to the skies, leaving the scene before anyone could ask more questions. I had saved the day, but I couldn't risk exposing myself just yet.
