The blinding light of Mongul's energy beam filled the room, the air crackling with raw power as Kara pushed back against the attack. Her arms trembled under the immense strain, but she refused to give in. I could feel her desperation, her willpower, and her strength. But even she couldn't hold out forever.
Volcana stumbled to her feet beside me, rubbing the side of her head where Mongul had hit her. Her eyes locked onto Kara, then to Mongul, who stood at the center of the room with a malevolent grin on his face, the energy still pouring from his hands.
"Not today," Volcana muttered, her voice hoarse but filled with determination.
Without waiting for a plan, Volcana summoned a massive fireball, the heat in the room spiking dangerously as the flames roared to life. She hurled it directly at Mongul's side, hoping to catch him off guard.
Mongul, however, was no ordinary foe. His reflexes were sharp, even in the middle of an attack. With a swift movement, he disengaged the energy beam, spinning just in time to raise a glowing energy shield to block Volcana's fireball. The flames splashed harmlessly against the shield, leaving Mongul untouched.
"Pathetic!" Mongul sneered, his voice dripping with scorn.
Kara, seeing an opening, shot forward. She didn't waste time with words. Her fists slammed into Mongul's shield, shattering it with a burst of her own strength. The impact sent a shockwave through the command center, shaking the walls and rattling the machinery.
Mongul staggered back, surprised but not beaten. His yellow eyes blazed with anger. "You dare-!" He didn't get to finish.
I moved quickly, seizing the opportunity Kara created. With my telekinesis, I grabbed one of the large pieces of debris from earlier and flung it at Mongul with all my might. It wasn't enough to kill him, but it was enough to knock him off balance. The chunk of metal struck his shoulder, and he stumbled back, momentarily thrown off.
"Kara, now!" I yelled.
Without hesitation, Kara flew at Mongul, fists clenched, and delivered a powerful uppercut to his jaw. The blow lifted the tyrant off his feet, sending him crashing into the control panels at the back of the room. Sparks flew as the controls were smashed, and Mongul groaned in pain.
"Nice hit!" Volcana shouted, grinning despite the sweat dripping down her face.
For a moment, it seemed like we had the upper hand. Mongul lay crumpled against the wrecked control panels, his hulking form momentarily still. But I knew better than to let my guard down.
"Don't celebrate yet," I muttered, keeping my eyes locked on Mongul.
Sure enough, Mongul's body began to move. Slowly, painfully, he pushed himself up from the wreckage. His armor was scorched, his face bloody, but the fire in his eyes had only grown more intense.
"You've made a grave mistake," Mongul snarled, his voice a low, dangerous growl. He stood to his full height, towering over us, his muscles rippling with barely-contained rage. "Warworld will not fall to the likes of you."
Kara hovered in the air, fists still clenched, ready for another strike. Volcana readied herself, flames dancing at her fingertips. I prepared to use my telekinesis again, trying to think of any advantage we could exploit. But Mongul was far from beaten.
With a roar of fury, Mongul slammed his fists together, sending out a shockwave of pure energy. It hit all three of us like a freight train. Kara was thrown backward, crashing into a wall with a pained grunt. Volcana was flung across the room, her flames extinguishing in the wake of the blast. I was knocked off my feet, my telekinesis barely keeping me from slamming into the floor.
I groaned, pushing myself up. My whole body ached from the impact, but I couldn't afford to stop. We were running out of time. If Mongul regained control of the ship, Earth would be doomed.
"We need to disable the ship!" I shouted, forcing myself to stand. "Take out its engines or its weapons. Something!"
Volcana staggered to her feet, breathing heavily. "Got it," she said through gritted teeth. She focused her flames, creating a ball of molten fire in her hands. "I'll take care of the power source."
She turned and sprinted toward a nearby console, blasting it with fire. The machinery melted under the intense heat, sending sparks flying and alarms blaring throughout the ship.
Meanwhile, Kara was already back in action. Despite the shockwave, she wasn't done fighting. She flew at Mongul again, this time aiming for his legs. Her fists collided with his knee, forcing the tyrant to stumble. But Mongul was resilient. He grabbed Kara by the cape and flung her across the room, slamming her into the floor with a sickening thud.
"Kara!" I yelled, but she didn't respond. She was alive, but barely conscious.
Mongul turned his gaze toward me now, his eyes burning with hatred. "You're next."
I had no time to react as Mongul charged. His massive fist swung at me, but I managed to throw up a telekinetic shield just in time. The impact sent me skidding across the floor, my head spinning from the force. I knew I couldn't keep this up much longer. Mongul was too strong, and my powers were nearly drained.
But we had to stop him. There was no other choice.
Desperate, I reached out with my telekinesis, grabbing hold of the largest piece of machinery I could find. It was a massive engine component, heavy and solid, and I flung it at Mongul with everything I had left. The metal collided with his back, knocking him to the ground.
"Kara, now!" I shouted again, hoping she could still hear me.
Kara, barely conscious but still fighting, forced herself up. She flew toward Mongul, her body weak but determined. With a final burst of strength, she slammed into him with everything she had, driving her fists into his chest.
Mongul roared in pain as he was driven back into the control panel. Sparks flew again, and the lights in the room flickered.
For a moment, it was quiet. Mongul lay motionless, his massive form slumped against the wall. Kara collapsed beside him, breathing heavily but alive.
Volcana approached, her flames still burning, but dimmer now. "Is it over?" she asked, her voice shaky.
I nodded, though I wasn't entirely sure. Mongul wasn't moving, and the ship's systems were flickering, struggling to stay online.
"We need to get out of here," I said, my voice hoarse. "This ship might not hold together much longer."
Volcana helped Kara to her feet, and we moved toward the exit. The alarms were still blaring, and I could feel the ship beginning to destabilize. We had won, but just barely.
As we made our way to the docking bay, I couldn't help but glance back at Mongul's fallen form. He had been defeated, but I knew we hadn't seen the last of him. Warworld was a threat that would never truly go away. Not as long as Mongul lived.
But for now, we had survived. And that was enough.
We reached the docking bay and boarded a small escape craft, just as the warship began to shake violently. As we flew away, I watched Warworld fade into the distance, its massive bulk dark against the stars.
"We did it," Kara whispered, her voice filled with relief.
I nodded, though my mind was already racing with thoughts of what would come next. Warworld might be gone for now, but the universe was a big place. And there were always more battles to fight.
But for now, we had won. And that was enough.
