LATE IN THE afternoon on one of her days off, Daphne is sitting in the little garden she planted with her mother when they first moved to the Chateau, getting rid of the weeds. She doesn't get nearly enough time these days to take care of it, but she tries to make it a priority as much as she can. If there's some way her mother can see her now, she doesn't want her to think Daphne just let her garden grow over.
As she picks through the plants, deciding what's good and what should go, the sound of a truck pulling up catches her attention. Glancing briefly over to the side, Daphne eyes Kiara's father's vehicle pulling into their driveway and turns to look away again. This morning, bright and early, John B left, with little to no explanation. Though, Daphne does know it involves their treasure hunt. Most of everything John B has been doing recently does.
Now, as the sun begins to slide lower into the side, casting a glow over them, Daphne sucks in a deep breath, preparing herself to talk to Kiara again. She doesn't want a repeat of the last time they saw one another, but she's also still angry at the brunette girl. Daphne knows it isn't rational, she has no real reason why she's angry, she just knows that she is. When Kiara said that they weren't dating, it effectively cut Daphne's heart in two. It's not that she didn't know they weren't serious, it's just a summer fling, nothing more, but to hear Kiara say it out loud hurt. She still hasn't been able to figure out why.
Kiara jumps out of her truck and heads towards the raven haired girl who stays in place, kneeling in the garden pulling out weeds. She comes to a stop a few feet away, watching Daphne with her hands on her hips. It's clear she's waiting for her to say something, or at least look at her, but when Daphne does neither of those things, she takes a step forward. "Daph, are you ready to go?"
Brows furrowing, Daphne does look up at Kiara this time. "Go?"
With a sigh, Kiara nods. "The movies in the park? I was supposed to pick you up, remember? We're meeting JJ and Pope there."
Wiping her forehead with the back of her arm, Daphne stands up from off the ground and peels her gloves off, tossing them onto the grass. Biting the inside of her cheek, Daphne crosses her arms over her chest. "I don't think I'm going to go to the movies this year," she says.
