OUTSIDE, LATER, THE SKY is completely black. A few stars decorate it here and there, but otherwise, it's like a blank canvas. Daphne stares up to it, listening to the gentle sounds of Kiara playing the ukulele as careful waves hit the shore and thunder rumbles in the distance. She's up on the railing, back leaning against a pole as she lets her mind wander, thinking of the fight she and John B had with Big John before he disappeared. A cool, night, summer breeze brushes over them all as they sit in a great amount of grief.

"How much was it again?" JJ asks into the silence, keeping his eyes glued to the water.

               "Four hundred mil."

A loon calls softly from somewhere not too far away, and Daphne lets her sore eyes slip shut at the sweet melody. Nature sounds are her favourite, always have been. Some of her best memories are of her, John B and JJ when they were little kids in nature. When they would have sleepovers at her and John B's place, they would sneak out at night onto the dock, and lay one by one in a row. They'd always be silent, and would simply listen to the sounds of the night all around them. The water, crickets, loons, owls, the chickens in their coup, leaves rustling in the wind. It was all so peaceful. Daphne wishes desperately that she could time travel to then, when life was so much simpler. When they were seven and all they needed was each other and the night sky to keep them safe.

"All right, let's talk the split," JJ continues, throwing his leg over to the other side of the deck rail, so he's facing the inside. Daphne, on the other hand, stays facing the water, not bothering to look at any of them. "Now, before we say "evenly," may I remind you that I am the only one that can properly defend us from those groupers who were after us. Protection? Not cheap, okay?"

"You haven't trained. You've done zero training."

"YouTube, bro! That's at least a five percent bump right there."

               "You haven't—"

               "Any objections? Didn't think so. I don't hear any, so . . . ."

"What are you gonna do with your 80 mil, Pope?" Kiara asks, ignoring JJ and swinging her ukulele in her hands a little bit.

"Pay for college in advance," Pope answers after a second of thinking. "And also, textbooks. Those are expensive."
