My heart raced as the footsteps grew louder, echoing off the quiet woods. I exchanged a nervous glance with Shane, who was already turning around on his feet, his gun ready.

"What is it?" Carl whispered, his eyes wide with fear. I tried to reassure him, but my voice was shaking.

"I don't know, sweetie. But we'll need to be quiet, we will be okay shane's here." I said

Shane nodded, his eyes fixed on the entrance to the quarry. "Stay behind me," he whispered.

As the footsteps grew closer, i could see two figures emerging from the darkness. One was tall and burly, with a rough beard and a menacing scowl. The other was lean and wiry, with a quiet intensity in his eyes.

"Who are you?" Shane demanded, his gun still trained on the strangers. The bigger bold man, sneered at Shane.

"we're not gonna hurt you, my name is Merle and over there is my baby brother Darl." The man said

My eyes narrowed, unsure if i trusted these newcomers. But Daryl, the quieter one, caught my eye. There was something in his gaze that seemed different, something that hinted at a deeper loyalty.

Shane lowered his gun, but his hand still rested on the grip. "What makes you think we'd want you to join us?"

Merle snorted. "We can help you survive. We know how to hunt, how to fight. And we've got skills that could keep you alive."

I exchanged a glance with Shane, weighing our options. We could use all the help they could get, but could we trust these two?

"What do you say, aurora?" Shane asked, his eyes still fixed on Merle. I hesitated, then nodded.

"Okay. You can join us. But you have to prove yourselves." Shane said

Merle grinned, a gold tooth glinting in the firelight. "Don't worry, sweetheart. We'll prove ourselves. And we'll make sure you're glad we did."

As the two newcomers settled in, i couldn't shake the feeling that they were taking a risk. But with the walkers closing in and resources running low, we needed all the help we could get.

And maybe, just maybe, Merle and Daryl would turn out to be the allies we so desperately needed.

After a while I ask Amy if she could watch Carl so I can find some berries. I walked towards Amy

"Can you watch Carl for me, I'm gonna go pick up some berries." I ask her

"Yeah sure" she said while giving me a smile

i walked through the woods, my basket slung over my arm, searching for the perfect spot to pick berries.

I had been feeling cooped up in the quarry all day, and the fresh air and solitude were a welcome respite.

As i bent down to examine a bush, i heard a rustling in the underbrush behind me. I turned to see Shane emerging from the trees, his eyes fixed on my.

"Hey," he said, his voice low and husky. "I saw you heading out here and thought I'd join you."

I felt a flutter in my chest as Shane approached me. I tried to brush it off as mere friendship, but the way he looked at me made me feel like he was seeing me in a different light.

"What are you doing out here?" I asked, trying to sound casual. Shane shrugged.

"Just wanted to get out of the quarry for a bit. And I knew you were out here alone..."

I raised an eyebrow. "You were worried about me?"

Shane's gaze intensified.  "Yeah, I was. I don't like the thought of you being alone in the woods, Aurora It's not safe."

I felt a shiver run down my spine as Shane's eyes locked onto my. I knew that he was trying to protect me and carl, but there was something in his gaze that made me feel like he was trying to possess me, too.

As we stood there, the trees seemed to close in around us, and the only sound was the soft rustling of leaves in the breeze.

I felt like i was trapped in a moment and I  couldn't escape, with a man who was determined to keep me safe - no matter what the cost.

Shane took a step closer to me, his eyes burning with an intensity that made my heart race.

"I want to keep you safe, little Bird," he whispered, his voice low and husky.

"I want to be the one you rely on, the one you turn to when things get tough."

I felt my breath catch in my throat as Shane's words sent a shiver down my spine. I knew that i should step back, create some distance between us, but my feet seemed rooted to the spot.

"Shane, I..."  I began, my voice barely above a whisper.

But Shane didn't let me finish. He reached out, his hand brushing against my, sending sparks through my body.

"I know you're still grieving, aurora," he said, his eyes filled with deep sadness. "But I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you."

I felt a lump form in my throat as i looked into Shane's eyes. I saw something there that i couldn't quite define, something that made me feel like he was seeing me in a way that no one else did.

And then, without thinking, he leaned in, his lips brushing against mine in a soft, gentle kiss.

The world around us melted away, leaving only the two of us, lost in a moment that neither of us could control.
