As we broke apart for air, Rick smiled down at me, his eyes shining with love and adoration. "I'm back, baby," he whispered. "I'm here."

I felt like I was melting into his embrace, the world around us fading away. We hugged again, holding each other tightly.

"Carl!" Rick exclaimed, as our son ran back to us, tears streaming down his face.

The three of us embraced, a happy reunion. I felt like my heart was full, my family together again.

But as we pulled back, I caught Shane's eye. He looked away quickly, but I saw the hurt and anger there. I knew I had to talk to him, and soon.

For now, I just smiled and hugged Rick again.  "Let's catch up" I said. "We have so much to talk about."

And for now, that's exactly what we did. We talked and laughed and cried, our little family together again.

But the tension between Shane and me lingered, waiting to be resolved.

As we settled in for the night, Rick suggested a quiet dinner, just the three of us. Carl chattered excitedly about his father's return, and Rick smiled, his eyes shining with love and exhaustion.

I watched them, feeling a mix of emotions. Happiness, relief, and...guilt. My eyes met Shane's across the room, and I quickly looked away.

After dinner, Rick pulled me aside, his expression serious.

"We need to talk," he said, his voice low.

My heart skipped a beat. What did he want to talk about? Had he already guessed about Shane and me?

"We need to talk about the CDC," Rick said, his voice was low and serious.

I felt a shiver run down my spine at least he Doesn't notice the awkwardness between me and shane.

"What about the CDC? Rick we can leave we're safe here?" I asked, my heart racing with anticipation.

Rick hesitated, choosing his words carefully.

" I just have a feeling we're not safe here and just before...everything fell apart. I spoke to a friend and he knows a scientist, his name is Dr. Jenner. He told me something that changes everything."

I leaned in, my curiosity piqued. "What did he say?"

Rick's eyes locked onto mine, his expression grave. "He that Dr. Jenner said that the outbreak...it's not just a virus. It's something that kills people then they come back alive he didn't say anything else but if we want answers we need to go there."

I felt a chill run down my spine. What did Rick mean? And what did the CDC know that we didn't?

"So What did Dr. Jenner mean?" I asked, my mind racing with possibilities. Rick's eyes locked onto mine, his expression serious.

"I think he was talking about a cure. A way to stop this outbreak once and for all."

My heart skipped a beat. "A cure?" I repeated, hardly daring to hope. Rick nodded.

"Yes. Dr. Jenner seemed to think that there was a way to reverse the effects of the virus. To restore the world to what it once was." Rick said I felt a surge of excitement mixed with trepidation. What would that mean for us? For our new reality?

"But we need to be careful," Rick added, his voice low. "If there is a cure, it's likely to be highly sought after. We'll need to be prepared to fight for it."

I nodded, my mind already racing with the implications. Little did I know that our journey to the CDC would change everything.
