It was a cold October day, nothing going on in the hustle and bustle of this city, normal traffic, the occasional fight but it was all the same. A young man by the name of Dave Strider was walking down the street. He was wearing black skinny jeans with holes in the knees, a red sweatshirt with a gear on it and his always present, black aviators. He had platinum blonde hair that swooped across his forehead, and a septum ring. He was on his way to this meeting for Teens in need. He was told by an officer after his last slip up to attend it, he said it would help him out. He didn't believe a load of that shit. But he went anyway because the last thing he needed was more time by himself to get into more trouble. So he walked into the building and was greeted by the only adult that supervised any of them. He was kind and Dave often took that for granted, but he liked the guy nonetheless.
He was walking to his normal seat in the back when someone caught his eye. It was a short, pale, really emo looking kid. He wasn't sure if it was a boy or a girl so he kept his mouth shut, and sat down, putting his earbuds in.

Karkat Vantas was new to the entire area. He moved here with his older brother in hopes of finding more opportunity. He knew he was helpless though. He had been through hell the last few months and he didn't think he was coming back from it anytime soon. His brother found his place when they were moving into their apartment so he decided to give it a try. He was at the table where coffee was, which had become his only friend in social situations. He was wearing a long sleeve black shirt, grey skinnier jeans, a yellow, orange and red beanie, and he had snake bites. His hair coveree part of his face, but mostly because he always had his head down. He looked around for an empty seat but to no avail. He saw an empty table in the very back near a blonde haired boy who seemed to be falling asleep more than paying attention. He didn't care though, so he walked over and sat on the table, his legs crossed and coffee in his hands. He was waited for the thing to start and pulled out a sketchbook.

Dave shot up abruptly and looked around. He fell asleep again. He looked back and saw that kid again. He was drawing this time with a cup of coffee in his lap.
"What a fucking dweeb" Dave thought. "Why not have some fun with him." Dave got up and walked over to the other and leaned against the table, Karkat didn't even notice him until he took a drink of his coffee and nearly screamed at the sight of him just appearing out of nowhere.
"Holy shit, who the fuck are you?" Karkat exclaimed, trying to steady his heartbeat.
Dave laughed and looked at the others book, "Greetings and salutations, newbie." he smiled "The names Dave, Dave Strider. Now who the hell are you?" he said with a smirk.
"Vantas. Karkat Vantas. I'm new to the area." he said as he put his sketchbook away in his bag.
"Duh, obviously he knew that much, stupid" Karkat thought to himself
Dave hopped onto the table next to Karkat and leaned back.
"Well that explains why I never seen you here before, I thought I was losing it" he said with a laugh.
Karkat stayed quiet. This guy was weird and had a bad vibe to him. He didn't think he was anything but bad news... but he liked that.
Karkat was always used to being a goodie-two-shoes. He always did as he was told, always listened, never got into trouble, until a few months ago. He played it safe but this guy, he made things seem exciting.
Dave removed his shades and stared at the other.
"Hey...your eyes are like mine" he said just above a whisper.
Dave had eyes that were two different colours, the left was green, the right was blue. Karkat blushed and looked closer at Dave, astounded. He always got made fun of for his eyes, people thought he was a freak.
Karkat's eyes were the opposite of Dave's, the left was blue and the right was green.
"Well fuck, that's a first for me" Karkat said casually.
He sipped his coffee again and pulled down his sleeves on his long sleeve shirt. He didn't want to talk anymore. Dave was bad news, he could feel it. And the last thing he needed was more shit fucking up his life.
"Look, um the guys here. We should pay attention" Karkat said softly and avoided eye contact.
Dave was confused but he shrugged, slipped his shades back on and sat back down in his chair. There was something about this kid, he was weird. Odd. Pure, but tainted. He wanted to know more. But from the looks of it, Karkat didn't enjoy his company to much. He, again, shrugged it off and pretended to pay attention until the end of the lecture.
He couldn't help but focus his attention on Karkat as the lecture continued. There was something about this guy. Something he wanted.
