Dave finally came to and he was in serious pain that made it hard to even open his eyes. Kankri was by his side when he heard him stir and he moved quickly and silently. He didn't like the kind of activities Dave participated in and this made him dislike Dave a little. Karkat was getting water when he came back in and saw Dave was awake,
"Welcome back, fucknuts"
"Karkat, please mind your language. You know how I feel about it"
Karkat rolled his eyes and looked back at Dave,
"How are you feeling, man?"
He slipped the others shades back on his eyes, seeing that he was squinting his eyes.
Dave shrugged and exhaled deeply.
"To put it simply I feel like complete and utter-" he was cut off by Kankri clearing his throat and staring at him.
"-utter crap. Everything hurts. And my jaw I'm sure will be bruised later" he said with a small smile.
Karkat rolled his eyes again and smiled back.
"You deserved it, Strider. But I'm glad you're safe. I was worried something happened to you." he reached down and grabbed the others hand.
Dave felt even shittier now. Not only had he hurt Karkat but he cheated, lied and pretty much screwed up big time.
"Hey, Kar, when I am feeling a little better we need to have a talk."
Karkat's eyes widened and he felt his hands shake,
"It's not bad! I just need to tell you something" Dave exclaimed as he sat up and kissed the other on his nose.
Karkat released the breath he was holding and smiled, totally relieved. So it wasn't the whole truth but it wasn't as bad as Karkat was thinking it was.
Kankri tinkered with something and fed it to Dave before exiting and letting the boys have their privacy.
"You're an asshole, Dave Strider. You're trouble and I can't believe you." Karkat's words were harsh but it was only to protect himself from being hurt by whatever was going to happen next.
Dave flinched at the others words and shrugged,
"I deserved that. And I know. I fucked up big time and Kar, I'm so sorry"
Karkat stared at the other, his mismatched eyes seeming to glow. He was angry but relieved, sad but so happy.
"Damn you, Strider" he said as he sat next to the other and put his arms around his waist, his head buried in his chest.
"Karkat...I have to tell you something." he removed the other from his waist and looked him in the eyes.
Karkat nodded and waited for the other to start talking. He'd been in this situation a few times and he knew the drill. He kept his hand interlocked with Dave's but loosely.
"This is so fucking hard.. I uh..I cheated on you. A few times. With someone I didn't know, I was angry and instead of busting my knuckles on walls I decided to go and trip off my ass and because I'm broke as a joke that was my way to pay them. I felt dirty and I wanted to stop but its like- no its not like, I am addicted and that's why I was the way I was when I got back today and Karkat I'm so sorry" Dave was crying now, tears making his eyes shiny and puffy. He wiped his face and felt Karkat's hand slip out of his. That broke his heart even more. Karkat's jaw was clenched and he stood up and started pacing. He didn't think that the other would lay that of all things on him. His head was dizzy and he felt his hands shake again. He needed a cigarette. Dave got up and walked over to him, and put his hand on the others shoulder. Karkat froze and looked at the other,
"Your ass is on lockdown from this point forward. You are only leaving this house with me or Kankri present. You're getting clean of this shit. I fucking mean it, Strider" Karkat decided to put their relationship on pause while he helped Dave with this.
"What about us, Kar..."
Karkat had to hold back tears as he looked at him,
"We're on hold. I'm your friend right now. That's it. When you get clean and get better then we can talk about us. But not until then."
Dave felt like a dagger was sliced through his heart and he nodded. Karkat kissed the others cheek and walked out, telling him to get some sleep. It was late and they both needed some time to process. Kankri checked on the boys periodically, occasionally having to hug Karkat due to his crying and give Dave a sedative to get him to sleep.

This was going to be hell
