Pain.

Excruciating, unstainable pain was the first thing she felt when she opened her eyes. Her entire body hurt, and it felt like her spine was on fire, the heat spreading from her left arm to the left side of her body.

She quickly realized that she couldn't move, the lower part of her body was stuck between the dashboard and the passenger seat of the truck she was in. She had learnt her lesson after trying to shift her left leg to the side. The searing pain coursed through her body like she'd been electrocuted. But at least it was a good sign, meaning her leg wasn't paralyzed, just injured albeit seriously injured.

Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for her left arm. She had tried moving it, commanding her brain to clench her fingers, but nothing happened other than a slight twinkle of her pinky. Her arm weighed heavier, a lot more each second. The nerves connecting her hand with the rest of her body had surely been disrupted and the numbness was spreading rapidly through her arm.

She lifted her head from the dashboard. The impact of the hit, had propelled her body forward, her head colliding with the hard surface of the dashboard and she'd loss consciousness. She ignored the throbbing ache in her head and the copper taste of blood in her mouth, and turned to check on her companion in the driver seat.

Her Major was in a worse state than she was. It looked like the entire front of the truck had fallen on the woman's legs. Only the upper part of her body was visible, her head was dangling to the side, her right hand bent in a way that seemed unnatural. Blood was oozing out her sides, from her shoulders to her waist, but the woman was still alive, if barely.

The Major was drifting in and out of consciousness, and judging by the amount of blood pouring out of her body, there wasn't enough time left. She had to do something to save the woman. But first she had to find a way out of the vehicle.

Quickly assessing the situation, she noted that her body wasn't completed stuck, seeing as she could move her right foot, but only a little because of the restricted space, and she still had one functioning arm.

The back of her seat clung to her like a vest and she needed the free space to move her body out of the truck. She ignored the pain on her left side and slammed her hand flat against the dashboard then began to push.

It lasted for a few minutes but it felt like hours when she finally felt the seat shifting back to its original position. She took a few moments to catch her breath, the little effort sucking up most of her strength, but she knew this wasn't the last of it.

She still couldn't move, the seatbelt restricting her movements. It surely was what had saved her life and prevented her body from being ejected out of the truck, but now the fabric of the belt was causing pressure on the burn at her side, and it stung.

Because of the numbness on her left side, her left arm was pretty much useless, thus she had to turn sideways and try unstrapping her seatbelt with her right hand, meaning she'll have to lean on her badly burned side.

She let out a loud grunt when she felt the stinging pain, but she pushed past it, extended her hand further and pressed on the buckle. The strap automatically retracted to its anchor ring, relieving her slightly from the pain on her spine. She exhaled.
