Deep in the heart of the island, where the trees grew so thick they almost blocked out the sky, Gideon Fullbuster and Laurie Redfox moved cautiously through the underbrush. Gideon's dark eyes scanned their surroundings, one hand hovering near his chest, ready to form ice at a moment's notice. Beside him, Laurie's iron-studded arms were tensed, his enhanced dragon slayer senses on high alert."You smell anything, iron breath?" Gideon whispered, a hint of their usual banter in his voice despite the tense situation.
Laurie sniffed the air, his brow furrowing. "Something's off. The air... it's too still."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the ground beneath their feet began to tremble. Gideon and Laurie leapt apart just as the earth erupted between them, a familiar figure rising from the debris.
"Iron Dragon Club!"
A steel pillar shot out from the dust cloud, narrowly missing Gideon as he rolled to the side.
"Ice-Make: Floor!" Gideon countered, freezing the ground around them. The ice spread rapidly, forcing their attacker to jump clear.
As the dust settled, Gajeel Redfox stood before them, a wicked grin on his face and his arm transformed into a jagged iron sword. "Ha! Not bad, boys. But you'll need to do better than that to become S-Class!"
Laurie's eyes widened. "Dad?!"
Before either of the young mages could react further, a voice rang out from above.
"Solid Script: Fire!"
Flaming letters materialized in the air, hurtling towards Gideon and Laurie. They dove in opposite directions, the fire spell melting through Gideon's ice floor.
Levy McGarden landed gracefully next to Gajeel, her blue hair tied back and a determined look in her eyes. "Remember, this isn't a sparring match. Show us everything you've got!"
Gideon and Laurie exchanged a quick glance, a silent understanding passing between them. They had trained for this, prepared for facing S-Class mages. But facing Laurie's parents? That was unexpected.
"Ready, Laurie?" Gideon called out, ice already forming around his fists.
Laurie nodded, his skin beginning to take on a metallic sheen. "Let's show 'em what we can do!"
Gajeel didn't wait for further discussion. "Iron Dragon Sword!" He charged forward, his arm transforming into a whirling chainsaw of iron scales.
"Ice-Make: Sword!" Gideon countered, a gleaming ice blade forming in his hands. The two weapons clashed in a shower of ice shards and iron filings.
Meanwhile, Levy was keeping Laurie on his toes. "Solid Script: Thunder!"
A crackling mass of electric letters surged towards Laurie.
"Iron Dragon Scales!" Laurie's body was covered in iron scales just as the thunder spell struck him. The electricity coursed over his metallic body, but he stood his ground, gritting his teeth against the pain.
"Iron Dragon Roar!" Laurie countered, sending a tornado of iron shards towards his mother.
Levy was ready. "Solid Script: Guard!" A shimmering barrier of letters appeared before her, deflecting Laurie's attack.
Back with Gideon and Gajeel, their battle had intensified. Gideon was combining his ice-make magic in ways he never had before, creating complex structures and weapons on the fly.
"Ice-Make: Cold Excalibur!" A massive ice sword formed in Gideon's hands, its size rivaling Gajeel's iron club.
Gajeel grinned, clearly enjoying the challenge. "Not bad, kid. But how about this? Iron Dragon Hard Fist!"
The two attacks collided with earth-shaking force, sending both mages skidding backward.
Laurie, seeing his partner pushed back, called out, "Gideon, switch!"
Understanding immediately, Gideon turned his attention to Levy while Laurie faced off against his father.
"Ice-Make: Geyser!" Gideon shouted, causing a massive pillar of ice to erupt beneath Levy's feet.
Levy nimbly jumped clear, her quill already moving. "Solid Script: Oil!" A slick of oil appeared beneath Gideon's feet, causing him to lose his footing.
As Gideon struggled to regain his balance, Laurie was locked in an intense exchange with Gajeel.
"Iron Dragon Sword!"
"Iron Dragon Club!"
Father and son traded blows at an incredible speed, their iron limbs clanging together in a deafening metallic symphony.
"You've improved, kid," Gajeel grunted, a hint of pride in his voice.
Laurie smirked, pushing harder. "I'm just getting started, old man!"
As the battle raged on, Gideon and Laurie found themselves being slowly pushed back. Gajeel and Levy's experience and teamwork were proving to be a formidable combination.
"We need to change tactics," Gideon panted, narrowly avoiding another of Levy's solid script spells.
Laurie nodded, his mind racing. Then, his eyes lit up with an idea. "Gideon, remember that combo move we've been working on?"
Gideon's eyes widened in recognition. "You think we're ready for that?"
"Why not?" Laurie grinned, his determination infectious.
As Gajeel and Levy prepared for another assault, Gideon and Laurie stood back to back, their magic power flaring to new heights.
"Ice-Make: Cannon!" Gideon formed a massive ice cannon, its barrel aimed at their opponents.
At the same time, Laurie took a deep breath. "Iron Dragon..."
Gajeel's eyes widened in realization. "Levy, watch out!"
"...ROAR!"
Laurie's iron-filled breath attack funneled into Gideon's ice cannon, the two magics combining in a spectacular fashion.
"Unison Raid: Frozen Iron Cannon!" they roared in unison.
A massive blast of ice-coated iron shards erupted from the cannon, hurtling towards Gajeel and Levy with incredible speed and power.
Gajeel quickly pulled Levy behind him, transforming his entire body into iron scales to shield them both. The impact was tremendous, sending the S-Class mages flying backward and uprooting several trees in the process.
As the dust settled, Gideon and Laurie stood panting, their magic nearly exhausted. Across the clearing, Gajeel and Levy were slowly getting to their feet, battered but grinning.
"Well, I'll be damned," Gajeel chuckled, brushing debris from his shoulders. "Looks like you brats actually did it."
Levy nodded, beaming with pride. "That was incredible, you two. You've more than passed this trial."
Gideon and Laurie looked at each other in disbelief before breaking into wide grins. They had done it. They had defeated two S-Class wizards.
As they caught their breath, Gajeel approached them, his expression serious despite the pride in his eyes. "Don't get cocky, though. This was just the first hurdle"
Gideon nodded, his determination renewed. "We're ready for whatever comes next."
Laurie cracked his knuckles, a confident smirk on his face. "S-Class, here we come!"
