Today, I woke up with a smile on my face, memories from last week still living in my mind. I rushed to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror, the necklace Lucas gave me caught my attention. I stood there, smiling like a fool when my phone suddenly rang. It was Sofia calling, my friend.
"Hello?" I answered the phone while brushing my hair.
"What time are you coming? Your oh so called best friend is looking for you. Gosh! Give me a break, will you? Come to school this instant!" She said with no pause, but one thing only registered on my mind.
"Wait, Lucas? What is he doing there?" I asked with such curiosity then proceeded to brushing my teeth.
"I don't know, you ask him. He only told me to call you since he forgot his phone in their room," she explained and I raised my eyebrow.
"Okay, tell him to wait for me. I'll just get ready," I said and hung up the call.
I finished within an hour and rushed my way to school. What the hell is he doing there?
On my way to our room, I can see Lucas standing near the door, looking and smiling at me.
"Why are you here dumbass?" I asked while raising my brow.
"Well, I bought you coffee," he scratched the back of his neck and lean closer to me. "And I need the spare key of my car," he laughed awkwardly.
"Why? Don't tell me you lost yours," I asked, leaning even closer.
"No, I forgot to take it outside my car, even my phone's inside," he said, almost whispering. I tried to compress the laugh that's trying to come out of me, but just couldn't. I burst out laughing which made him blush. "Quit laughing Calista. Just come with me, please?" He pleaded and grabbed me to the parking lot.
"I don't have your keys with me, stupid. I left it at home," I joked, seriousness written all over my face
"Stop playing with me, woman. I know you have it with you all the time," he raised his eyebrows at me so I laughed and handed him the keys. "Because of that damn coffee I bought you, I forgot my phone and my keys inside," he ranted while scavenging through the compartment looking for his phone and key.
"Well, it's not my fault you're thinking about me too much," I said trying to sound sassy.
"Dumbass, I know that your period is coming since you've been complaining about having cramps last night. I'm just being a good best friend here; can you just thank me? There you are," he sighed in relief after arguing with me. "Let's go, ungrateful woman," he said so I hit him hard and he almost fell. I laughed so hard that he glared at me. "You're so mean," he said, pouting.
"Fine, let's go baby," I said with a sweet tone and grabbed his hand, but as soon as I stepped my foot, he pulled me. "Why?" I asked in confusion.
"Say that again," he said, raising his eyebrows.
"What?" I asked while giving him a 'huh' look.
"What did you say?" Still raising his eyebrows, slightly frowning.
I looked at him, puzzled for a moment, then it hit me. My cheeks flushed as I realized what he was referring to.
"Oh, that. I just meant it in a friendly way, you know," I said, trying to sound casual and avoiding his intense gaze.
"Friendly way, huh?" he repeated, a smirk forming on his lips. He took a step closer, closing the distance between us. "You called me baby," he teased, his voice dropping to a softer tone.
I felt my heart race. This playful banter was nothing new, but today, it felt different. Maybe it was the way he was looking at me, or maybe it was the lingering effects of the memories from last week. Either way, I was caught off guard.
"Don't make it weird, Lucas," I said, rolling my eyes to mask my nervousness. "Let's just get to class before we're late."
He chuckled, finally relenting.
"Alright, alright. But don't think I'm letting this go," he said, winking at me and walked away.
"Wait for me," I shouted while trying to catch him. Gosh he walks to fast. "Hey," I said tapping his shoulder. "You're walking too fast Lucas," complaining, trying to match his phase.
"It's not my fault you have short legs," he said, chuckling. I tilted my toes to try and slightly smack his head, "Aww! What's that for Calista Martinez?" He looked at me, not denying about the annoyance he feels.
"That's for being mean to your lovely and gorgeous best friend, Lucas Fletcher!" I pouted and crossed my arms.
"Oh, shut up! Being cute doesn't suit you," he chuckled, causing me to roll my eyes.
I stormed off and walked like an elephant thumping its feet. I heard him follow me while laughing. He stopped me by grabbing my shoulders making me turn around and face him. He grabbed my chin to make me look in his dazzling, hazel green eyes, and tucked a few strands of my hair.
"Hey, quit acting like that. You're ruining that beautiful face of yours," he smiled, and I could feel my heartbeat raising.
"Please stay like this forever."
"Buy me a food," I said which made him laugh again.
"What do you want?" He asked. I smiled and told him all my cravings. We went to the cafeteria and he gladly obliged to satisfy my cravings. I waited there like a kid waiting for her toys.
After eating, Lucas accompanied me to our classroom, Sofia was waiting outside, her arms crossed and a knowing look on her face.
"Finally! Took you long enough," she said, then gave us both a suspicious look. "What's with the vibe, you two? Something you're not telling me?"
Lucas and I exchanged a quick glance before laughing it off.
"You're imagining things, Sof," I said, patting her on the shoulder.
"Sure I am," she said sarcastically, but let it go.
