As the night air got cooler the couple got up for some sleep and not catch a cold. Carlos didn't let go of the others hand, pulling him along. The Aussie followed behind. They stayed silent, but it was a comfortable one.
Carlos glanced over at Oscar, who seemed more relaxed than he had all day. They had shared stories and laughs, the earlier tension forgotten. Carlos was grateful for moments like these, where the world seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them.
As they approached the door of Oscars room, Carlos felt a pang of disappointment that the night was coming to an end. He wanted to hold onto this feeling a little longer. "Hey, Oscar," he said, stopping just outside the door. "Thanks for tonight. I really enjoyed it." Their eyes locked "And again, I am really happy that we are good."
Oscar smiled, his eyes reflecting the lights of lamps in the corridor. "Me too, Carlos. It was nice to just hang out and forget about everything else for a while."
Carlos nodded, his heart warming at Oscar's words. "Yeah, we should do this more often."
Oscar chuckled. "Definitely. It's good to have a break sometimes."
They stood there for a moment, neither of them wanting to go back inside just yet. Carlos still holding onto the youngers hand. Finally, the Spaniard took a deep breath and stepped closer to Oscar. "Listen, I know things can get pretty crazy with racing and everything, but I want you to know that you're not just a coworker to me. You're a friend. A good one." In the process he had wrapped the hand he was holding in both of his, lightly shaking it, as if he wanted to gesticulate with it. Ferraris Italian roods showing through.
Oscar's smile widened, and he felt a rush of affection for Carlos. "Thanks, Carlos. That means a lot to me. You're a good friend too." The blush crawling back into his face. Bot staring at the other, both not brave enough to say what the really felt. Not yet.
Carlos hesitated for a second, then pulled Oscar into a quick, heartfelt hug. "Alright, let's get some rest. We've got a big day tomorrow. Travelling."
Oscar hugged him back, feeling the warmth and sincerity in Carlos's embrace. "Yeah, let's do it."
As Carlos slowly pulled back he whispered in the youngers ear. "Sleep well, Oscar. And remember, Team Piasco for the win."
Oscar laughed softly. "Goodnight, Carlos. See you in the morning." With a final smile, he headed to his room, ready to take on whatever the next day would bring, secure in the bond they had strengthened tonight.
The next weeks were stuffed, only giving any of them time to freely breath as they stepped back onto home soil. Monaco.
Lando had invited Oscar to stay with him in his Flat instead of the Hotel he supposed to be in. The Aussie gladly exapted, everything was better then another hotel. So when he got to his own room for the next 1.5 weeks he plopped down on the bed with a big sighn.
They still had some days to the GP, so the Britain had informed his teammate beforehand about the get together he wanted to host. Since the most pilots were in Monaco prior to the race anyway, it was easy to find a decent group to hang out. Lando had organized it all, Oscar just had to come out of his room as the doorbell rang for the first time.
He had looked forward to the evening. Lando asked if he wanted to invite Logan as well and Oscar was more than happy about that. The American and he didn't get to spend a lot of off time together, so catching up was done via text more then once.
Secretly the Aussie also looked forward to some more time around Carlos. The Spaniard and him didn't get more then texts and calls since their night in the hotel park. Oscar started to catch himself longing for the warm touches of the older. Lando had noticed that and teased him about it properly before deciding to play a bit of a matchmaker that evening.
The sound of laughter and the clinking of glasses filled the hotel room as Carlos and Chales finally turned up to the ongoing gathering for a night of unwinding. The tension of the pending race weekend seemed to melt away as they shared stories and joked about past races. The Spaniard couldn't resist looking out for the young Aussie as soon as he had greeted the host.
In a neutral voice he asked his friend "Is Oscar around too?" The smaller Britain smirked up to him "Oh, Oscar?" He giggled slightly "Muppet, yeah he is. I think he is still talking to Logan on the couch somewhere." Charles shook his head, giggling himself "Come on Loverboy lets look around first. You should talk to some of the other before you spend the rest of the night staring at Oscar." The Spaniard huffed "That's so not true Mate. I wouldn't just stare at him." But his teammate only raised his eyebrow at that. Both Ferrari drivers stepped deeper into the rooms, to meet the rest of the guests.
They found George Russell trying to teach Mick Schumacher a new card game. The hole room was alive with energy, everyone relishing the rare opportunity to relax and have fun. Soon they got pulled into a conversation by Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. But they more and more people came to interrupt the group.
Carlos, ever the social butterfly, moved effortlessly between conversations, his infectious laughter brightening the room. Oscar watched him, feeling a warm sense of gratitude for his friend. He had always admired Carlos's ability to bring people together, to make everyone feel included.
His friend noticed that the Aussie wasn't that present eve since the Charles and Carlos had arrived "Oscar?" Logan softly tapped his shoulder "Its fine if you want to go and talk to them, I'll be fine." The McLaren driver finally looked away from the Spaniard "No. No, I am here to talk to you. Lets talk. What were we talking about again?"
Carlos noticed Oscar looking. He smiled to himself pleased. That promptly got the attention from Nico Hülkenberg, an old teammate of him "What are you smiling at?" Charles still next to them laughed "Probably Oscar." The older German laughed a bit "Oh really? The Australian greenhorn?" The black-haired man dropped his smile "Don't be all smug, I know what you are doing behind closed doors." The blonde laughed at that even more, slapping a hand on the others shoulder "Already overly protective I see. Must have got you hard already."
Carlos rolled his eyes as his friends kept teasing him. After ten minutes he had enough you are obnoxious. Charles, Nico and Daniel laughed at that "Sorry Chilli. We'll stop." But the Spaniard waved them off "Don't worry I'll find better company." He had stolen some more gazes at Oscar and Logan who were still huddled together on the couch. He had to be honest, a bit of jealousy had bubbled up. So the Spaniard gave Nico and Charles a clap on their shoulders before separating from the group.
