"are you okay?" isla quickly questioned as charlie walked into their dorm. "why do you look annoyed?" she chuckled. "because i've been third wheeling." charlie let out a sigh and flopped herself onto her bed.
"don't you always do that?" isla joked, stopping her game for a bit and turning towards her friend. "yes! but he was so annoying!" charlie groaned into her pillow as she laid on her stomach. "who are we talking about?" isla put on her confused expression before a knock was heard.
"oh, she's here!" isla stood up and went for the door. "who's here?" charlie questioned, watching as isla opens the door. "jenna," charlie replied.
"who's annoying?" jenna spoke up as soon as isla opens the door. "well, love, charlie here has been telling me about her third wheeling emma and a guy." isla shut the door as jenna went to sit on her bed, facing charlie. isla went ahead and sat on the floor in between her girlfriend's legs.
"whoa, a guy? what's his name?" jenna questioned at the mention of her friend with a guy. "richard," charlie scoffed at his ridiculous name.
"wait, richard?" jenna exclaimed as isla sniffled a laugh at the name. "richard evans?"
"yeah?" charlie answered, only knowing it because it was written on the jersey he was wearing. "how do you know that?" isla curiously turned to jenna. "oh my god, that was emma's crush in high school! she liked him for three years!" jenna told them.
charlie and isla looked at each other, furrowing their eyebrows. "well, shit." isla let out. "did they end up dating?" isla questioned.
"no, he kept giving her mixed signals and ended up dating the popular girl." jenna rolled her eyes at the memory. "but who cares?" jenna spoke, "she's not gonna like him now."
"who the hell names their kid richard, anyway?" isla mumbled.

the next morning, charlie was early to class. she sat a few rows from the front as she munched on the milk bun she bought at the cafeteria, on her way to class. there was a few minutes until class starts and a few students were already in.
it was english class, the one that she shared with emma. so, maybe she was hoping she could see the girl.
"hey, charlie!" a familiar voice spoke.
there she was.
charlie smiled and turned towards the voice, recognizing it to be emma's. "hey," charlie greeted back, finishing up her bun and stuffed the empty packet in her pocket to throw out later. "you look excited for english," she chuckled lightly.
"i'm just happy i get to see you and not sit alone." emma replied, getting her books out for the lesson and sending charlie a small smirk, making the girl chuckle.
for the rest of the class, the girls were mostly talking amongst themselves, quietly laughing everytime one of them made a joke.
"alright class, that's all," the professor spoke as all the students started to pack up once the class ended. "for extra credit, i've prepared a special task for you," the professor started.
"i want you to make a little documentary about your summer break. sounds good?" she finished and received nods from the students. "well, that's gonna be fun," charlie said, excitedly before turning to emma.
"got any more classes today?" charlie asked as emma pursed her lips. "hm, no. heading back to the dorm." emma replied. "i wanna sleep." she added with a pout on her lips making charlie laugh. "well, do you want me to walk you back?" charlie asked, putting her bag across her body as they both stood up. "mm-hmm," emma sent charlie a genuine smile.

"did you invite jenna?" charlie questioned as the two stood in front of the ice cream shop, handing out brochures to people that are walking in. since it was the grand opening, there were loads of people inside. "mm-hmm,"
"she said she's coming with emma," isla replied, sending smiles to people while welcoming them. "really?" charlie's eyes lit up at the mention of emma. "yeah," isla simply nodded.
"talking about us?" a voice spoke, walking up to them. isla's smile quickly widens at the sight of her girlfriend. "hey, love," isla went to hug jenna as jenna laughed at her adorable behavior.
"hey, myers," charlie smiled towards emma who was beside jenna. "charlie," emma walked over to the girl. "wow, didn't know you'd look great in a uniform," emma said playfully, as they both laughed at her comment. "charlie, isla,"
the two turned towards the voice, seeing isla's mother, calling them over. "that's enough, come inside and serve your friends," she spoke softly, sending jenna and emma a friendly smile.
with that, emma and charlie sat down on a booth as jenna and isla went outside to get some alone time. "how's the ice cream?" charlie questioned, sitting back down, opposite of emma after getting her own ice cream. "really good!" emma replied, her eyes slightly widen, making charlie chuckle.
"seriously, charlie?" emma suddenly spoke, charlie immediately looked up from her ice cream. "i was okay with the plain churro, but you like mint chocolate?" emma joked playfully, furrowing her eyebrows. she then laughed when charlie sent her an offended look. "will you ever stop judging me, myers?"
charlie laughed before pulling out an old camera from her bag. "where'd you get that?" emma asked. "found it in my dad's old stash," charlie smiled. "really helpful for my summer documentary," charlie added, excitement in her voice before pointing the camera towards emma.
"hey, no. come on," emma let out a giggle, reaching her hand out to cover it. "what? you need to be in my documentary," charlie said. "come on, you look pretty," she added.
emma smiled, blush covering her cheeks as she shook her head at charlie. the two laughed before going back to enjoying their ice cream.
suddenly, charlie noticed someone walking through the door, richard, with his friends. charlie's mood shifts immediately, her stomach tightening as she watched him approach the table with a smug smile.
the unwanted guest greeted with an overly friendly tone, completely ignoring charlie as he slides into the booth beside them. charlie shifted uncomfortably, trying to hide her irritation, but it's clear in the way she rolled her eyes and sighed quietly.
as emma and richard dive into a lively conversation, charlie felt like a third wheel, left out and increasingly annoyed. her ice cream melts slowly in the dish, forgotten as she keep glancing at the two, trying to figure out how to rejoin the conversation or, better yet, how to get rid of the unwelcome intruder.
"hey, charlie," he said plainly.
oh wow, he noticed me! charlie thought, sarcastically.
"you work here?" he questioned with a chuckle, looking up and down at her work uniform. "mm-hmm, got a problem with that?" the two continued glaring at each other, smiles resting on their face, a fake, sarcastic one.
emma noticed the awkwardness, "so,"
"you here alone?" she asked richard who finally turned to look at her. "uh, yeah, just thought of getting ice cream by myself," he answered making charlie furrow her eyebrows. she clearly saw him with his friends; which are now sitting on a booth, waiting for him.
then they heard someone clear their throat, turning to see jenna and isla. isla was judging him hard, which made him slightly embarrassed as jenna had her arms crossed on her chest. "hey, do you mind? we were supposed to sit here," jenna spoke, looking towards the boy.
"yeah," isla nodded. "saw your friends by the way, looks like they are waiting for you," she added and pointed towards the booth, knowing that because they saw him walk inside with his friends.
richard chuckled dryly out of embarrassment, "y-yeah, i'll leave you guys," he stood up, looking at isla who was glaring at him then walking away to his friends.
"finally," isla exaggerated, sitting down next to charlie.
