the group walked up to the beach, seeing a lot of people already drinking and talking. the sound of the fire crackling can be heard as well as the light music that was played. there were multiple cooler set on the sand filled with drinks, mostly just soda cans and beer.

"i wanna go home already," charlie let out a sigh, seeing some drunk, disgusting boys. "let's chill for a bit. i just wanna see my friends then we can go home early," isla gave charlie a pat on her back.

charlie went off, grabbing a can of soda then sitting on a log as she enjoyed her drink. a lot of people actually recognized her since isla and her family always invite her to stay with them during summer. after a while, isla joined her while jenna and emma sat a few feet from them.

jenna was already a bit tipsy. she was always the first one to get tipsy when it comes to drinking. "hey, i'm gonna head to the bathroom really quick," isla announced, getting up from her seat next to charlie as charlie replied with a simple nod.

"hey," some guy called, standing infront of jenna and emma. "my friends and i got some real good at his car. would you want to join us?" he asked, a smirk resting on his face. "uhm, were good," emma awkwardly replied to the boy as he chuckled. "i wasn't talking to you," he scoffed, watching as jenna went for another drink in the cooler.

"come on, jen," emma sighed. "you had enough,"

"let's get you to isla so we can go home," emma said, pulling jenna up from their seats and started walking away from the boy. "seriously? why're you being such a stuck up? she's fine," the boy called out to emma as he rolled his eyes. "such a boring little bitch," he scoffed once more. emma looked down continuously in embarrassment as she walked with jenna by her side.

that was when the boy's shoulder was pulled and a punch was thrown straight to his face. he fell onto the sand with a groaned as all eyes were on them. "what the hell, ford!?" he touched his bleeding nose, glaring up at charlie. "don't you fucking dare call her that," charlie leaned down to him.

"get off me!" he quickly pushed her off then punched her on the face. charlie touched her bottom lip, seeing it was bleeding as she got up again. charlie pushed him off before isla came and held her back. the boy's friends also came up and protected him.

"let's get you home," isla whispered to her, with a worried look in her eyes.

"you didn't have to do all that, you know?" emma sighed. "he was just drunk," she added. "he was an asshole," charlie replied then winced in pain when emma pressed the cold towel with ice on her skin. charlie ended up with a bruise on next to her right eye, a cut on her right cheek and a scratch on her bottom lip.

the two sat on the dining table. then emma opened up the first aid kit. "this might sting a bit. you okay with that?" emma spoke. "hm, let's just get it over with," charlie sighed and scrunched her face. emma dabs a cotton ball with antiseptic and gently starts cleaning the cuts. "you really took a beating tonight, huh?"

"pretty sure his was worse," charlie chuckled softly, remembering the boy's bleeding nose. emma gently started applying an ointment to the cut on charlie's cheek. "yeah, but let's make sure you're not left with more than a few bruises. we've got to get you cleaned up."

charlie then smiled faintly, "thanks, emma. for being here, i mean."

"well, you got hurt because of me," emma smiled a bit, shaking her head. "i'm sorry," charlie let out as emma looked up at her. "it's okay, just don't do something crazy like that again," emma reminded. "deal," charlie gave the girl an eye smile, her dimples popping out of her cheeks.

"can i ask you something?" emma glanced up, facing charlie. "yeah, of course,"

"uhm, jenna and i are going to this camp that our club organized. there's no signal there so i'll be out of reach for a week," emma started, charlie listening to every word she's saying. "but, i was wondering when i get back, would you wanna watch fireworks with me at the summer festival in town," she finished off.

charlie smiled, "yes, i would love to watch fireworks with you,"

"uhm, what the date on that?" charlie turned to ask. "july 1st. don't forget," emma replied making charlie nod.

"you sure you don't want to go to the hospital? you might have some internal injuries we can't see." emma added, looking at charlie's face worriedly. "i'm fine, i took one punch," charlie chuckled. "just need some rest. and well, i'm not a fan of hospitals."

emma nodded in response, cleaning up the cotton balls and placed the stuff back inside the first aid kit. "alright, but if you feel worse, you promise you'll let me know?"

"promise." charlie gave her an assuring smile. "alright then. you should head to bed,"

"mm-hm, thanks em,"

"anytime,"
