Lyra's heart pounded in her chest as Sabrina's request interrupted her plans, frustration coursing through her veins like a raging river. "Why me, Grandma?" she blurted out before she could stop herself, her tone sharp with irritation. "Can't you just ask brother Caleb?"

Sabrina's brow furrowed in response to Lyra's outburst, a hint of disapproval flashing in her eyes. "Lyra, dear, there's no need for that tone," she chided gently, her voice carrying a note of reproach. "I asked you because I thought you might like to help."

Lyra bit her lip, cursing herself for losing her composure, but she couldn't suppress the simmering anger that threatened to boil over. "Sorry, Grandma. I'll help," she muttered, her voice tight with frustration as she reluctantly followed Sabrina into the pantry.

As they entered the dimly lit space, Lyra's mind raced with a thousand thoughts, irritation at being thwarted from her plan warring with determination to find a way out of their predicament. But even as she scanned the shelves for any sign of the elusive book, she knew that time was running out, their window of opportunity closing with each passing second.

Just as Lyra's frustration reached its peak, Max's voice cut through the tense silence, his words a lifeline amidst their desperation. "Grandma, I'll help Lyra with that. She's got something important to take care of upstairs," he interjected smoothly, his tone calm yet firm as he stepped forward to take Lyra's place.

Lyra's frustration peaked as Sabrina dismissed Max's offer, her patience wearing thin as she struggled to contain her mounting irritation. "No need for your help, Max. I'll get my boy Caleb to assist me. You two can get lost," Sabrina scolded, her tone cutting and final as she waved them away with a dismissive flick of her hand.

Max's jaw tightened at Sabrina's rebuff, but he maintained his composure, offering Lyra a reassuring nod as they both retreated from the pantry. With a shared glance, they wordlessly agreed to regroup and come up with a new plan.

Once they were out of earshot, Max called out to Ethan, his voice low but urgent. "Ethan, come on. We need to go upstairs," he whispered, his eyes darting nervously towards Sabrina's room to ensure they hadn't been overheard.

Ethan nodded in understanding, his expression serious as he followed Max up the stairs, their footsteps echoing through the silent hallways as they made their way towards their grandmother's room. As they reached the door, a sense of anticipation hung heavy in the air, their hearts pounding with a mixture of excitement and trepidation at what they might find inside.

The Sterling siblings stood before their grandmother's door, their hearts racing with anticipation as they prepared to uncover the secrets hidden within. Lyra's hand hovered over the doorknob, her fingers trembling slightly as she hesitated, uncertainty washing over her like a tidal wave.

Max exchanged a tense glance with Ethan, their eyes conveying a silent agreement to proceed with caution. With a subtle nod, Max stepped forward, his hand resting on Lyra's shoulder in a gesture of silent reassurance.

"Go ahead, Lyra. We're with you," Max whispered, his voice low but filled with determination as he encouraged his sister to take the lead.

Lyra nodded in response, her resolve strengthening as she grasped the doorknob and slowly turned it, the hinges creaking softly as the door swung open to reveal the dimly lit interior of their grandmother's room.

As they stepped inside, awe washed over them, their eyes widening in wonder at the opulent surroundings. The room was filled with antique furniture and rich tapestries, casting long shadows across the polished wooden floor.

But their attention was drawn to the ornate dresser near the window, where a small, intricately crafted locket sat perched atop a pile of silk scarves. Lyra's eyes widened with recognition, her heart pounding with excitement as she realized that their goal was within reach.
