Beep-beep... beep-beep... beep-beep...

The lab's emergency siren continued to sound in the background amidst the slaughter that permeated through the halls.

Bloodied scientists, subjects, assistants, and guards alike were scattered across every floor of the building. The overhead lights continued to flash spontaneously above me.

I couldn't bring myself to move, or react, or to do anything at all, really, but to just stand there and watch the figure in front of me.

Despite the bloodied children lying around us, despite the broken Rainbow Room, which had once been the sole place of joy for those children, despite my mortified face that was distorted in fear, he stepped towards me. Closer and closer.

Standing paralysed, I waited helplessly as death drew, closer and closer.
