𝚃𝚆𝙾 𝚂𝚃𝚁𝙸𝙳𝙴𝚂 𝙽𝙾𝚁𝚃𝙷, I find the Mercedes-Benz-C-Class parked at the kerb. The Uber driver is surprisingly out and waiting for me as I approach. Okay, strange. Or maybe he was on a call, right?
"You good, mommas?" he implores.
"I'm here, aren't I?" Annoyed, I sally.
I climb into the front passenger seat. The driver closes the door, goes around, and gets behind the wheel. O-kay...I always ride via Uber Black but I've never received such treatment. I strap myself in and tap his shoulder."Hey, I'm sorry for being a bitch. Do you by any chance have anything strong? You know, like ibev, ndifun'unxila," I mumble, explaining to him that I need something that will get me intoxicated,
An oddly familiar boisterous laughter slips from his vocal cords. Giving me a quick glance, he speaks,
"The name's Sakhile, what's yours, mommas?""Nofoto, my name is Nofoto," I reply, giving him the name I'd registered with on the app. Well, Nofoto is my second name after all, so it's not really a fib.
"Aight aight, Nofoto. You are quite the personality aren't you? You good, you don't need anything?" he probes.
"Like I said, I need something strong," I persist. Promptly, he takes out a silver flask from the glove compartment, unscrews it and passes it to me. I swallow once twice and then hand it back,
"Yes, hits the spot!" I exclaim. My wandering eyes catch the cigarette box in the glove compartment. Asking no questions, I grab the Marlboro box, select a cigarette and spark it with the car lighter. Shortly, I blow out a long stream of smoke.
"You shouldn't be doing that. It's not good for you," with a frown, he states.
"How old are you, Sakhile?" I ask.
"Uhm, 28. Why are you asking?" His bushy brows form a perfect 'V', reminding me of someone. A familiar face, but who could it be? I rack my brain, struggling to remember. The image of his resemblance eludes me.
"Aha! You're what, four years younger than me? Don't tell me what to do Sakhile," I warn before taking another pull from the cigarette.
"Sisi, are you well? Like mentally," he questions with a scowl plastered across his face.
"Oh, so you think I'm a lunatic, is that what you're implying?" I peeve. He titters sarcastically, shaking his head.
"Shwele," he mumbles softly. I roll my eyes instantly.
"Listen, Sakhile. I've had a rough day already, just work with me, please. I just found out that my fiancé has been cheating on me with my favourite cousin. So forgive me for acting like a loony." Sakhile whips his head in my direction, eyes widened in shock.
