"𝚆𝙷𝙰𝚃 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙷𝙴𝙻𝙻 𝚆𝙰𝚂 𝚃𝙷𝙰𝚃? We behave like hoodrats now?" With a sense of urgency, I implore the trio. My Nanga, Ayize, and Sade; all three of them alarmed by my presence."Mind your damn business, buddy!" I snap at our driver, who's surfing his eyes between all of us.
These three should be glad that I intervened at a crucial moment, or else the situation might have spiraled into dire consequences. Worst case scenario; Qaphela finds out that his pregnant fiancee was engaged in a heated brawl with her cousin. The day night before their wedding?
I flicker my vision to the rear view mirror, glancing at their guilty faces. My gaze is engrossed on the one with the most culpable expression.
"Nofoto," I call out with unwavering authority, granting me vehement blinks from her. Akin to Nanga, Ayize's eyes told it all.
"She pissed me off Sakhile," Ayize utters, tenderly.
"And that means you should stoop to her fuckin' level? What about your reputation? Your profession?" Here I am scolding my older sister as if she's Nova.
Silence.
"Cha, ngiyabuza Ayize," I amplify.
Again, silence.
"She provoked me. I tried Sakhile, I really tried." Haibo mfazi ka bafo!
"She had us fucked up Sakhi. Mentioned our mother and went on and on about shit I told her in confidence," At long last, after her agonising silence, Nangamso's response emerges like a beacon of clarity. Shortly, Ayize goes off.
"Actually tell me about that! Walking graveyard? Recovering coke addict? You did cocaine, Nangamso?" she chuckles venomously. "The same you who was reminding me that "high value women don't commit foetus deletus", huh?"
"I was going to tell you someday, soon," Nanga murmurs softly, surrendering to the despair. Instantly, our gazes collide through the rearview mirror.
"So it's true? Wow, Nangamso!" Ayize exhales sharply, releasing a forceful breath. "And you told her yet you didn't even think about informing me! Does Sakhile know about this?"
"Nami ngimangele Nofoto," I reply in my head.
"It's not that sim—"
"Not that simple?" Ayize sarcastically scoffs. "What was so hard about picking up the phone and filling your sister in about the foul lifestyle you'd started living? Huh?"
I immediately flinch, taking umbrage at her choice of words. Glancing at my Nanga, I notice that she is suddenly overtaken by a torrent of emotion, her heart wrenching into a heart-rending sob.
