Rishi watched from the doorway as Urmi effortlessly slipped into the rhythm of his parents' world.
She laughed at their jokes, chimed in with anecdotes, and moved about the kitchen with an ease that suggested as if she had been a part of their family for years.
A wave of irritation washed over him. He had never seen his parents so relaxed, so genuinely happy with anyone outside specifically Somi.
It was a stark contrast to his own strained relationship with them now. He remembered Somi, how she had always found his parents suffocating, their traditional values a constant source of friction. She had never made an effort to fit in, to be able to make them like her. In fact, she had often rebelled against their expectations.
A bitter taste filled his mouth as he turned away. He retreated to his study, slamming the door behind him. The silence of the room was deafening. He pulled out a drawer and took out an old photograph. It was of him and Somi.
And anger for Urmi again started taking over as he knew that even If this marriage is annulled, Somi will always be compared to Urmila by his parents. Always.
