A young girl ran through the palace halls. Giggling and laughing while chasing her father's pet bear named Bosco. She was around five years old, with short uneven brown hair, eyes like chocolate milk, and a lavender dress that went to her knees. Her hair was pulled into a half up half down pony tail.
"Bosco, wait for me!" She yelled to the animal, squealing with laughter. Bosco stopped and waited for the child to catch him, before he scooped her up onto his back and bounded through the palace.
"Rosabella, dear, what are you doing?" Her father, the King asked.
"Playing with Bosco! He's my best friend." Rosabella said, laying on the bear.
"That's nice, dear."
Rosabella looked out the window and pointed at it. "Can I go out there."
"No, princess." Another male voice said. Long Feng, royal advisor to King Kuei, walked in. "It is far to dangerous for you out there."
"Oh." The princess looked down, saddened that she couldn't go outside. Her eyes were misty with tears. Even Long Feng felt bad, she was only five after all.
"If you father is okay with it, we can make you a bordered garden to play in." Long Feng suggested.
"I'd still get to go outside?"
"Yes, princess. But you'd be safe." Long Feng forced a sweet smile. He had never been good with kids in the first place.
"Please, Daddy?" Rosabella begged.
"Of course it's alright. As long as you're safe, my dear."
"Yay! Let's go, Bosco!" Rosabella cheered, getting back onto the bear as he ran off. The young girl squealing with joy and excitement.
Years later, when Rosabella was ten, she was walking through the palace when she stumbled across the library. Her eyes widened with a smile as stars sparkled in her brown eyes at the sight of all the books. Rosabella rushed in and started reading. By the time she was thirteen, the princess had read half the books and scrolls within the palace library. She had learned about the four nations, the purpose of the avatar, histories of her kingdom, forms of different bending styles, weapon styles, and dancing styles. Her favorite culture, on the other hand, was the traditions of the water tribes. She found them so unique, yet so beautiful."Maybe one day I could visit one of the water tribes." She said to herself when reading about warriors from the Southern Water Tribe.
But, what she didn't learn, was that the Fire Nation had started a terrible, terrible war. And Ba Sing Se was a main target.
