In the morning, Katara exited the home with a yawn as she checked their mailbox. The young girl gasped as she read the parchment. Running back inside she announced the news.
"I've got it!" She said, "I know how we're gonna see the Earth King."
"How're we supposed to do that? ""One does not pop in on the Earth King and the princess""!" Toph mimics Joo Dee's voice, expressing her annoyance with the city.
"The king is having a party at the palace tonight for his pet bear, and it seems to celebrate Princess Rosabella's fifteenth birthday." Katara explained. Upon hearing the girl's name, Sokka listened in more. The princess was his age, that's got to mean something.
"You mean Platypus-Bear?" Aang asks, raising a finger.
"No, it just says 'bear'." Katara corrects.
"Certainly you mean his pet Skunk-Bear." Sokka tributes his thoughts from his position laying on the floor with his legs on the wall. Hands behind his head as a 'pillow'.
"Or his Armadillo-Bear." Toph suggests.
"Gopher-Bear?" Aang adds.
"Just, 'bear'." Katara reads again.
"This place is weird." Toph concludes.
"The palace will be packed. We can sneak in with a crowd." Katara explains, changing the topic.
"Won't work." Toph rejects the idea, laying back on the pillows.
"Why not?" Katara asks.
"Well, no offense to you simple country folk, but a real society crowd would spot you a mile away." Toph states, grabbing a treat from the bowl next to her. She points at Katara, "You've go no manners." She takes a bite from the puff.
"Excuse me?" Katara asks, a bit offended. "I've got no manners? You're not exactly Lady Fancy Fingers."
Toph burped as to prove Katara's point more. Then she said, "I learned proper society behavior and chose to leave it." She tossed the pastry to the side. "You never learned anything. And frankly, it's a little too late."
Sokka rolled around so he was laying on his stomach. "Ah-ha, but you learned it! You could teach us."
"Yeah, I'm mastering every element. How hard could manners be?" Aang asked, then used the curtain next to him as a fancy robe. "Good evening, Mr. Sokka Water Tribe, Ms. Katara Water Tribe, Lord Momo ot the Momo Dynasty, your momo-ness."
Sokka himself grabbed a curtain and faked a fancy voice. "Avatar Aang, how you do go on."
Aang bowed.
Sokka bowed.
Aang bowed a little deeper.
Sokka bowed deeper.
They both bowed at the same time, trying to bow lower than the other. This resulted in the two idiots bonking their heads and falling backwards. Toph stood and walked to stand by Katara."Katara might be able to pull it off, but you two would be lucky to pass as Busboys. We're going to be in the presence of a real princess. This has to be as believable as possible." Toph said.
"But I feel so fancy." Sokka whined with a dorky smile on his face. Later that night, the palace was packed with people, and Rosabella stood alone. She straightened out her dress for the zillionth time that evening. The girl was hoping to find someone who caught her eye. With a sigh, she walked around until she bumped into someone and nearly fell over.
"Woah-" She gasped as lost her balance. The person she had bumped into wrapped and arm around her waist to steady her. The boy she bumped into wore a busboy uniform, had a tray of crabpuffs in one hand, he had ocean blue eyes and stood at about 5'3''. Once Rosabella was steadied, he let go of her waist.
"I am so sorry for bumping into you." He said, his voice was sweet and still slightly high-pitched.
"I-It's quite alright." Rosabella said. "What's your name?"
"Sokka." He said, smiling widely. "And yours?"
Rosabella thought if it was the right idea to tell him. "Oh, uh,"
"You don't have to tell me." He said, then looked her up and down subtly, taking in her appearance. She had chestnut brown hair that cascaded down her back and reached her waist, she had small beads braided into it. Chocolate brown eyes that shone brightly in the twinkling lights of the party. Tan skin that was close in color to his own. The mysterious girl was wearing a pale yellow and light pink gown that hugged her figure and extenuated her curves. She stood at about 5'1'' and had soft full dim cherry lips. That's when Sokka noticed the silver tiara on her head, it was styled to look like an old-fashioned flower crown but in silver.
"Excuse me, Sokka, I must be going now." The girl said, excusing herself.
"Wait, wait!" Sokka grabbed her hand, it was soft and warm. Not to mention, it fit perfectly in his. "I-I never caught your name." Her eyes met his and it was like the worlds were crashing into each other, she pulled her hand away and ran off. His eyes followed her movements, watching as she hurried over to a bear and scratched his fur. Causing both the bear and Sokka to smile. Aang snapped his fingers in Sokka's face.
"Stop flirting with strangers and focus! We need to find the king and princess." Aang reminded him in a whisper.
But I just found the princess. Sokka thought.
"Where are Toph and Katara?" Aang asked.
"I don't know, just keep an eye out for the King." Sokka said as Momo wagged his tail in Sokka's face from his hiding spot under Aang's hat.
"I don't know what he looks like. Nor the princess." Aang said.
"You focus on the king, I'll focus on the princess. Besides, the king, you know, royal, flowing robe, fancy jewelry." Sokka said, grabbing Momo's tail so the lemur didn't get caught.
"That could be anyone." Aang worried, looking around the party.
"Another Crab Puff, please." A voice next to Aang said. Sokka bowed down next to the voice, not seeing who it was.
"You found us!" Aang exclaimed when he saw it was Toph.
"I'd know your little footsteps anywhere, Twinkle Toes." Toph said, taking a Crab Puff from Sokka's tray. The older boy opened his eyes and noticed the two were Toph and Katara.
"Thanks for letting us in," He said sarcastically.
"Sorry," Katara apologized. "but the guy who escorted us in won't let us out of his sight." Katara nodded behind them.
Sokka glanced where Katara motioned to. "What guy?"

{Ocean Speaks!
Thank you so much for reading this chapter, and yes, the episodes are being broken up so there are more chapters. The old version of this fanfiction just wasn't doing it for me with all the mistakes I made, and rather than go through each chapter and edit, I decided to rewrite. Mainly because I think my writing has improved greatly since writing Her Protection.
ENJOY!}
