The air hung heavy as small taps of footsteps follow behind Dorothy, each little tap growing heavier as the weight of the situation causes the girl to grow increasingly nervous by the second. Slowly, she approached the large building, pushing the door lightly as she was immediately met with the sound of chatter amongst those within the four walls. However, to the brunette's dismay, the room quietened down rather quickly, confusion painting the faces of the fellow soldiers surrounding her at the shocking sight of a woman in uniform.

The girl, instead, chose to stand tall, she knew she had worked hard, if not harder, than her fellow comrades to earn the position she was in, and though she was only a mere Lieutenant, Dorothy remained proud of the work she put in to defy the gender roles that were often implemented against her.

The silence in the room was almost palpable as Dorothy stood there, eyeing each soldier within that small confined space, almost as if she were making an attempt to show them that she was not as weak as they may think.

"Is she the new Lieutenant?" Someone finally spoke, breaking the loud silence as the Wilkens girl quickly turned to face the man, staring for just seconds before finally speaking up.

"Lieutenant Wilkens is the name." She responded looking pointedly at the room, already mentally preparing to hear the protests of her involvement in the military. She instantly became surprised, however, when the room remained quiet, only hushed whispers being heard over the light background music.

Slowly, one man got up from his seat on the large comforters and walked over to her, holding his hand out as a warm greeting to their new recruit.

"Major John Egan, but you can call me Bucky." The Major spoke as Dorothy lightly grabbed onto his hand, shaking it lighting whilst nodding along in hopes of earning any respect the Major could offer to the girl. "Where abouts are you from?"

"Houston, Texas, sir." She replied allowing her accent to grow more prominent.

"I thought I heard an accent there." Bucky exclaimed, small smiles blooming across each other's faces as the brunette slowly grew comfortable with the man, his demeanour seeming quite comical as he reminded her of her eldest brother, Albert, in some way or another.

And before she knew it, a few of the men had surrounded her, the many rounds of introductions resulting in the names leaving Dorothy's memory just as quickly as they had entered. Though there were many men in the room who had obvious distaste for the girl, their lasting stares of pure disgust not leaving much to hide, Lieutenant Wilkens tried to pay no mind to them, instead choosing to enjoy the warm welcome she was receiving from her new companions.

"Captain Everett Blakely, ma'am." One man spoke, shaking her now worn out hand before speaking once more, "Do you have a nickname of any sort?"

"Nickname?" The girl questioned, unsure of what he meant. "People call me by my name, Dorothy, or just Lieutenant Wilkens."

"Well in this squadron, everyone has a nickname, now me, I'm Bucky, and Major Cleven over here is Buck." Major Egan spoke, pointing at the man who had a blonde wrapped in his arms. "What did you say your last name was again?"

"Wilkens, sir."

"Wilkens... interesting." Bucky replied, obviously thinking thoroughly about what to name the girl. "Willow?"
