"It's been two years, love," Kazuha said, placing a small bouquet of Sumeru roses in front of the simple gravestone. The samurai sat down on the grass, resting his sword beside him.
"I miss you. Nahida, the Traveler, even your mothers miss you. Damn, I miss you so much. I wish I could have helped you more when I had the chance. I'm so sorry. So much has changed; I wish you were here to see it. I wish you were here so I can hold you and never let go. I love you so much, Scara. You meant everything to me." Kazuha spoke, holding his hands together and closing his eyes.
Soft footsteps quickly approached him, stopping a few feet away.
"Kazu...ha?" A familiar voice asked, lacking its regular flirty tone.Kazuha opened one eye to the burgundy-haired detective.
"Heizou.. I assume you're here to mourn as well."
Heizou simply nodded, seating himself a foot next to Kazuha.
"You brought him Dendrobium?" Kazuha asked, eyeing the red flower as Heizou placed it next to the Sumeru roses.
"Yeah, I recall Scara saying they reminded him of us both on our... uh fourth date, right?" Heizou responded, recounting the fond memory.
"And then, on our anniversary, we both bought Dendrobium flowers which he thought was stupid, and dumb that we both had the same idea."
"Yeah, but then we found both bouquets in his room."
"To which he claimed he only kept them because it'd be a waste to throw them away."
"Of course, his aunt told us he loved the flowers and occasionally talked to them as substitutes when we were too busy to visit him."
"We should have been there instead of the flowers.-"
"We can't change what happened. I wish I had put my work aside more. But I can't change that, I'm just glad we were there at the end."
"I almost wasn't. If it wasn't for the Traveler staying sober I wouldn't have been there. He would've died alone."
"He didn't; we were there, and so was Nahida. He wouldn't have died alone. You know that. We helped him conquer his fears."
"But we couldn't help him conquer all his fears. Maybe if we had, he would still be here..."
"Stop thinking like that! He's gone! All we can do is remember him and respect his wishes."
"Heizou, I'm not gonna date you; I can't do that. I know that's what Scara wanted, but I just can't."
"That's okay, how about just friends? I know you're low on those." Heizou joked, lightly nudging Kazuha who glared at him.
"Fine. Completely platonic. Which means no flirting."
"But-"
"Do you even want to be my friend or are you just trying to weasel your way into a relationship with me again?"
"..."
"Thought so."
"Fine, but flirting is my personality and I thought you liked it when I flirted."
"No. I liked it when you flirted with Scara because he would get flustered and pretend to be mad."
"He looked so cute when flustered. Alright, I swear I won't flirt with you."
"You're a shit liar, kinky fuck."
"Hey, that was uncalled for!!"
"Sorry, just wanted to see you mad."
"What- are you high?!"
"A little bit. Just so I don't combust into tears. I can still think rationally. Mostly."
"...ok."
They both sat in silence for a couple of minutes. Kazuha invited Heizou inside for tea. Five minutes later, the two men were seated on the gray sofa in Nahida's living room, both sipping their tea.
"Do you remember that time we took Scara to the beach? The one on Nakurami island?"
"Yes, we had to take him in a barrel because he was terrified."
"Haha, you were thrilled to wear his hat. He had to fight you to get it back."
