This is the photo the story is based on. I drew this and I meant to post it on Xiao's birthday. I know it says Dada and Papa but you can pick whichever father figure names make the most sense. Ignore the lack of hands and that his arms don't make sense; I didn't know how to draw hands. Anyway his name is Meng and his nickname is Xiao Meng which means little dream (according to Google Translate)
Aether's pov:
"Dad! Daddy! Look! Uncle Venti braided my bangs! And he said he'll braid the rest too once he's caught another crystal castfly!" Meng exclaimed enthusiastically, excitedly running towards Xiao and me.
"You look adorable," I said, lifting him into my arms. "Xiao, what do you think?" I asked. Meng held his fists in anticipation. Xiao's attention moved to our son.
"...Venti did a good job." Xiao returned to his activity. Meng's happy, energetic mood diminished a bit. I glared at him expectingly. Xiao, feeling my angry stare, turned his whole body towards us, his gold eyes immediately drawn to Meng's slowly forming frown. Xiao looked at me, tilting his head in confusion. I simply looked at Meng's braided bangs. Xiao's lips parted, making a small "o" shape as a look of realization spread across his face.
"The braids truly suit you, Meng."
Meng's smile returned bigger than before. I smiled too, although in my head I wondered how in Tevyat I married this dense emo.
"Uncle Venti should braid your bangs, too!" Meng said, reaching his hands out for Xiao, who took the little one from my arms. I giggled softly, imagining Meng, Venti, and, myself trying to pindown Xiao long enough for Venti to braid the Adeptus's hair.
"No," Xiao stated sharply.
"Pwease," Meng pleaded, but Xiao shook his head.
"Hey, Meng, do you want us to style your bangs like this?" I asked. Meng nodded violently.
"And how about you, Xiao? Would you let me braid your bang?"
Xiao nodded.
"Xiao Meng?! Oh, there you are. Look, I caught three more castflies!" Venti said holding the mentioned items.
"Yay!" Meng cheered as Xiao put him down.
"Hey, Venti, can I use two of those?"
"Hm? Yeah, sure! Here. Venti handed me the extra castflies he caught and left hand-in-hand with Meng. I sat down on a root while Xiao sat down facing me with his eyes closed. I started braiding, giving him kisses as I worked, enjoying his cheeks turning red from my affectionate actions. Meng and Venti weren't far away, I could see them but thankfully their backs were turned. I finished and fastened the crystal castflies. "Done!"
