Hotel Key
SHE SAT CRISS CROSS in the back of the open jeep, many of the other storm chasers hunkering down at the same hotel. She had opted not to stay in a hotel, but rather sleep in the jeep. Aiden insisted on the place, Connie agreed.
Connie held the stick of the sucker, listening to the soft music of the chasers. Ryan took the spot next to her, looking up at the dark night sky.
"That was crazy today." He comments, she mumbles with the candy in her mouth. "Can I ask you a question?" He wonders, she shrugged taking the watermelon sucker out of her mouth.
"Depends." She says. Ryan looked over at the parked red truck, and then at her. "Why don't you like him?" He asks.
"Who?" Connie deflected, and he raised a brow. "Owens?" He states. She sighs crossing her arms.
"People like him just do this for the clout, the attention, the fame, and they don't take one second to think clearly about what they are showing," Connie explained, he shook his head.
"He and his crew treat it like a fun ride and not something that destroys lives." Connie summarized. He shook his head.
"I didn't think of it that way," Ryan mumbled. "Now you know." She deadpanned. Aiden walked over to them, keys in hand.
"I tried to get us three rooms, but I only got two." He explained and he tossed the key over to Connie, "You get your own, us boys share a room." Aiden patted the door of the jeep.
"Are you fine with that?" He asked the boy, and he nodded. "Yeah, I have siblings it's cool." He agreed.
"Second floor, 120 and 118," Aiden says, holding his backpack close.
Connie slid out the back, zipping up her bag, a pack of dum dum sticking out. A thump hit the concrete, and on the ground her water bottle laid.
"Damn." She grumbled, she looked at the two of them. "I got it go ahead." She reassured, bending down.
A puddle of ice on the ground with her water around the edges. Shadow cast next to her, Connie looked up seeing a blonde woman pushing away the cubes of ice.
"Thanks," Connie says to her, Kate furrowed her brows looking at the bottle label. "No problem." She says, both of them standing up.
"NSSL?" Kate asked her. Connie inhaled deeply, nodding. "Yeah, I started working there a year ago." She states, holding her bag straps.
