"Esther, you need to rest."
"No." She moved frantically around her dining room table. "I have to finish working on this."
"But, sweetie. They told us..."
"I know what they told us...that doesn't mean I can't still keep up with her." She looked through some papers and organized them. Taking a pause, she looked at the ceiling and took a deep breath. "Listen..." She turned to face him. "...I know you think I'm crazy and losing my mind, but I'm not."
"I don't think you're crazy."
"Good." She sat down. "It's just......" she fought back tears. "....this is our baby...my baby and they just..." A few tears fell. "....what kind of system won't let a child go with a good, stable, healthy family that loves and wants her? We could be taking her shopping for new clothes for school. She could be up playing with her dolls in her room or simply annoying us with a thousand questions. But instead she's being mistreated."
"You don't know that. She could be with good people."
"She's not. I know she's not."
"How do you know?"
"Because I can feel it in my chest....." Her breath shook. "....in my heart." Walter went and hugged his wife. She immediately started crying.
"I know, Esther."
"I can't sleep or eat. The only peace I have is with you and our babies, but it makes me even more sad. She could be enjoying those times with us. I want our baby back. She needs us. I know she does."
"Listen to me.." Walter pulled away and sat next to her. "Listen...look at me." She looked at him. "You're one hundred percent positive that you want her?"
"Yes. I feel like we were meant to know and have her." Walter looked deep into Esther's eyes. He knew that his wife wouldn't get this passionate about something or someone if it wasn't necessary. So he knew that this little girl was really important to her. He was just so surprised that it happened in such a short amount of time. She was only here for two days and they had already built such an amazing bond. Walter saw it when they had to say goodbye to her. From the outside looking in, it would seem like a child was being separated from their mother and Janet was definitely Esther's child.
"We'll get her."
"What?"
"We'll get her, but it may take a long time. Are you willing to...."
"I'll wait and work as long as it takes to get my baby, Walter. I don't care if it's fifty years from now and all we have is two minutes together. I will wait for it."
"Okay. Then I'm with you. Whatever you need." Esther smiled and hugged him again.
"Thank you, honey."
"Anything for you and OUR baby." He rubbed her back. "So tell me what all of this is." Esther pulled away and turned to the table full of work.
"So I went over to that house and found all of these important documents. I took pictures of everything before I gave it to CPS and I printed the copies. These have her and her parent's info. I also have the names of a few of the families they've placed her with, just so I can keep up with her."
"How did you get that?" Esther looked at Walter. "Esther?"
"Okay, but you can't say anything, because then it would have consequences." Walter looked at Esther sideways.
"Alright then."
"Someone gave me this information."
"Who?" Just as Esther went to speak the doorbell rang.
"Perfect timing." She got up and went to the door.
"What's up, Esther?" They laughed and hugged.
"What's up, girl. How's our baby doing?" She sighed. "That doesn't sound good."
"They put her with another crappy family." Esther groaned.
"Come in. Let's work on this some more and see if we can find a breakthrough."
"Actually, I think I already have something." She turned and waved to her car. A few minutes later someone came and stood in front of Esther.
"Hi, you must be Esther. It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you too."
"And the next time I tell you to do something..I expect it to get done!" Rene's foot connected with her stomach. Janet screamed out.
"AHHHH!" Tears fell down her face. "I'm sorry. Please!"
"You're not sorry or else I would have had my things ready when I came into this house." He picked her up and threw her into the closet door causing it to break. She struggled and fought to get up.
"I'll go do it now. Just give me some time." Rene shook his head.
"Do you really expect me to believe that?"
"Yes, please." Rene turned to grab something and Janet tried her best run away, but he grabbed her and started hitting her wherever he could. "NO! STOP! Please!"
"Man, turn this shit off." T threw his remote down. One of the guys grabbed the remote and turned it off. Standing up, T held his hands above his head. "What's the update?"
"What you mean?"
"Are my men planted and ready?"
"T, we can't...."
"ARE THE MEN PLANTED AND READY?!"
"Yes, sir."
"Get the line going."
"But T, we have ran through it fully and..." T took out his gun and shot at the wall. All the men got nervous. T rarely has to shoot his gun, so when he does it's a big deal.
"Let me tell you what's going to happen. You are going to let everyone know that the minute brother man leaves the fucking property we will be moving in. I'm going to tell Walter to tell Esther and Marisol. We're getting her and all of her stuff out of there in one move. Take her to my house. My mother has the room ready. Do I make myself clear?" The men nodded. "Good. Get on it as soon as I leave this room and if this plan does not go the way I ordered, two of you will get a new hole somewhere of my choosing." T looked around at the men and put his gun up.
As soon as he left the room, the men got to work. He made his way to the office and sat with Walter. "So? How she doing?" Walter stood up.
"It's going down today. I can't wait anymore. This dude is going to kill her if we don't do this." Walter rubbed his hands together.
"Cool. I'll call Esther."
"Good. I'll make sure the men know to pack up her things as well. By tonight, Janet and Esther will be at my house."
"Perfect." Walter sent a message on his phone. "So how bad was it to make you do this?"
"It was bad, but on the plus side, she definitely won't be having that baby. He kicked the crap out of her stomach. Throwing her against walls and into doors. Beating her with random objects around the house."
"Damn, I want to get this guy so bad. It's eating me up."
"But...."
"I know, we can't just yet. But, whooooo....how I would love to." They laughed but stopped when a knock came on his door.
"Come in." One of the guys came in. "What's up?"
"Rene left the property."
