"I am appalled at these allegations!" The man shouted.

"Sir, the evidence is clear. The child will be removed from your custody and there will be an investigation." Afeni spoke. The man slammed his hand on the nurse's desk causing them to jump back.

"An investigation! For what?!" Afeni tried to keep her emotions together. "I have taken care of that little girl. She's fed and healthy and..."

"Healthy is a stretch considering she almost died from the severity of pains that have been ignored for over a week."

"She didn't say anything to me. So maybe she should've done better with..."

"Don't put this on that child. Her pain was obvious enough for her teacher to notice and be concerned. She doesn't even live with her so we know that you knew what was going on." The man folded his arms.

"I've done nothing wrong and you can not investigate me. It's completely ridiculous. I take in this child which is risking my own life. Who knows what these foster kids will do."

"She's twelve and she's always in your care or the school's. What could she possibly do?"

"Who knows? These fast tail little girls get into anything they can. I wouldn't be surprised if she ended up...." Afeni lost her temper and slammed her files down on the desk.

"Don't you dare!" The man stopped talking. "That little girl is innocent! She has done nothing but be a good girl! She goes to school and gets good grades! You took advantage of her and harmed her!"

"What proof do you...."

"The DNA of the baby she just miscarried! The diagnosis of chlamydia and gonorrhea she just got! You gave her all of that and I will make sure you are prosecuted to the full extent of the law! You deserve to be under the prison and never see daylight again!" Afeni caught her breath. She rubbed her face before looking back at the man. "These officers will be taking you into custody. You will be investigated and charged for your crimes." The officers came and put the man in handcuffs. As they took him to the elevator, they read him his rights.

Afeni leaned on the nurse's desk and fought back tears. She blamed herself. That man performed the action, but she blamed herself. She tried everything to put Janet in a good home and she thought she did. This was overwhelming her. It seemed no matter how hard she tried, Janet could not catch a break. She kept getting hurt and it was only getting worse. What was she going to do? "Afeni!" She looked up.

"Esther." She ran to Afeni with worry all over her face.
"What happened to my baby?" Afeni shushed Esther. She looked at a nurse and she tilted her head towards a door.

"Come on." Afeni took Esther into one of the storage rooms and closed the door.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Afeni took a deep breath.

"Janet had a miscarriage." Esther felt anger rise in her.

"What?"

"Her foster father was raping her this whole time. He gave her chlamydia and gonorrhea. She almost died in her school bathroom. If the school teacher hadn't saved her, she would be gone." Esther tried hard to catch her breath. Her heart was beating so fast that her head was hurting. So many emotions were hitting her and she couldn't process it. She wanted to kill that man. She wanted to take Janet and run away with her. She wanted to find her parents and kill them. Above all, she just wanted to go in there and hug her. She wanted to comfort her, but she couldn't. Her baby girl was in pain and she couldn't do anything.
