James ran down the stone steps towards the black lake, his robes billowing behind him. Emmeline was staring out across the lake, leaning delicately against a tree trunk, and hugging her robes tightly against the light breeze, as she waited patiently.

"Emmeline" James called breathlessly.

"Hi James" she smiled warmly.

"I'm so sorry I'm late, I completely forgot"

"Oh James, you're not supposed to say that" Lily whispered from the bush behind them.

"He's not really good at dates" Sirius replied, snorting. "He's quite socially awkward when he's not trying to impress people, acts like a bit of a thicko actually." Remus darted Sirius another warning glance.

"What now?" he mouthed, Remus' face moved in a 'you know what' gesture.

"It's totally fine James" her smile didn't falter. She was quite tall, but not as tall as James, her hair falling down in brown locks to just above her waist. Her high cheekbones and naturally pretty face, radiant in the afternoon sun.

Emmeline was a very popular Ravenclaw, helped dramatically by her incredibly kind and warm nature she exhibited to every person she came across. She was by far one of the more envied girls in Lily's year. She was also a chaser on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, and the best they'd had in years, according to James.

"I bet if she wasn't a witch" Lily began. "She'd be a model in the muggle world"

"A model?" Sirius turned looking at her in utter bewilderment.

"Oh, I forgot how little you know about muggles" Lily sniggered, turning her head back to James and Emmeline, who had just sat down by the side of the lake.

"I bet you 10 galleons, he'll kiss her by the end of the date" Sirius whispered loudly to the others.

"No way!" Peter exclaimed, causing James and Emmeline to turn their heads in their direction in confusion. "10 galleons, she leaves before dinner" Peter whispered back. Lily saw Remus rolling his eyes.

"Lils you in?" Sirius asked from beside her, his cheeky smile plastered from ear to ear.

"I'll bet 10 galleons that she kisses him" Lily replied.

"Alright, but you don't know James" Sirius held his hand out for her to shake.

"I'll take my chances" she put her hand in his, shaking it firmly. Emmeline was laughing uncontrollably at something James had said, touching his forearm lightly.

"I've been wanting to go on a date with you for so long, James" her words were airy and light, a smile constantly plastered across her face. James seemed taken aback by this, he clearly wasn't used to someone being more forward or cocky than him.

"Me?" James pointed his index finger at himself in shock.

"Yes, you" she giggled.

"Yuck" Peter's voice came from the other end of the bush, startling Lily. "Cringe or what?"

"It's a nice place you've chosen for a date" Emmeline gestured towards the lake. Luckily for them, it was warmer than it was earlier when Lily and James were sat in the Quidditch stands.

"Well it would've been Hogsmeade, but what with there being no trips at the minute and all, the castle was all I had left to choose from" he answered smoothly, smirking over at her.

"Well, it was a good choice" she replied, slowly making her way over to him, so she was basically sitting in his lap.

"Bit keen isn't she?" Lily spluttered bitterly, taking herself by surprise. Sirius wiggled his eyebrows at Remus over Lily's head but he just rolled his eyes.
