Chapter 3: Family Dinner

Soren was studying in his family's library because he had already finished his swordplay and magic training for the week. Normally, he would be hard focused on his studies, but he was far too excited to study this time. Soren had just turned 10 years old this week. That meant he was now officially old enough to be taken to the Academy's Egg Chamber for a chance to get his very own dragon egg. This was the very moment Soren had been waiting for since the goddess reincarnated him from Earth into the world of Tesaria. He only had to wait a few more days until the coaches that were supposed to take him and all other 10 year old in the Kingdom who wished to become dragon riders to the Academy.

Both of his elder sisters were currently attending the Academy training to become riders. When they reached 10 years old, his sisters left home for a few days to go to the Academy for their chance to be chosen be dragon eggs. When they returned, they were both carrying their own dragon eggs. It was very surprising to Soren and his parents that they returned with eggs that had rare colors. Aria carried a bronze egg while Luna carried a silver one. A few months after his sisters returned with their eggs, they hatched into two healthy baby dragons. Arias bronze dragon was a male that she named Tyraxx and Lunas dragon was a female that she named Moonstone. For the next 5 years, Tyraxx and Moonstone were kept in the Dragonhold where their fathers dragon, Nightwing slept and ate. Nightwing raised Tyraxx and Moonstone as if they were his own hatchlings and taught them how to fly, safely breath fire and behave as dragons of riders. Soren was able to get along well with his sisters dragons, but it was clear that they preferred Aria and Luna. When Aria and Luna reached 15 years of age and were to enroll at Dragon Rider Academy, Tyraxx and Moonstone weren't fully grown dragons yet, but they were large enough to ride.

There were times when his sister would come home for a visit and Soren and his parents were allowed to visit them at the school. His sisters and their dragons were currently spending their summer break at home. They wanted to be there for their baby brothers 10th birthday. Soren knew he had to do some more studying, but he was just too excited. "Is everything alright, Master Soren?"

Soren turned from the books on his desk to see Amy standing beside him. Amy was now 11 years old. She was still his personal maid, but she was also his closest friend. When she wasn't doing her maid duties, her mother, Carla,  was training her to master her Thunder and Stealth magic, which she shared with her mother, as well as her physical training as a Combat Maid. "Oh. Hello, Amy. I was just thinking how excited I am to finally be able to go get my own dragon egg. I just can't believe I'm finally old enough", said Soren.

Amy giggled a little. "Yes, I'm sure you are, Young Master. This is a important time for you."

"Are you sure you don't want to come with me to the Academy, Amy? You know that you don't have to be of noble blood to become a Dragon Rider. Commoners become riders all the time and with your skills, I'm sure you'd make a great rider", asked Soren.

"I'm grateful for your offer, Master Soren. Truly. And I would be lying if I said that I didn't find it tempting, because I do, but I rather like being your personal maid. Besides, I don't think my mother would approve of it. You know how adamant she is about making sure I know my place as a maid", answered Amy.

Soren sighed. "Yeah you're right. I love Carla like a second mom, but it wouldn't hurt her to lighten up a little about a few things."

"I couldn't agree more, Young Master", said Amy and she laughed.

"Amy, I just want you to always remember that I don't think of you as just a maid. I think of you as my closest friend too".

Amy blushed as she moved some hair away from her eyes. "Yes, Master Soren. I know".

Soren and Amy stared at each other for a few seconds when Carla walked opened the library door. "Amy? Is the Young Master in here?"

"A-Aaa yes he is mother. He's right here".
