If you've seen the hashtag #LLAW you've probably heard about the passing of 13 year old Aubreigh Wyatt. LLAW stands for- Live Like Aubreigh Wyatt.

Aubreigh faced severe harassment from peers through social media from a group of students that went to her school. The bullying persisted and ultimately contributed to her tragic su!c!de on September 4, 2023. Even after death, she was further slandered by her bullies with a video they posted of a Barbie doll hanging by its neck, mocking how she k!lled herself.

This case highlights the devastating impact of bullying on mental health and the critical need for awareness. Today on July 31, we wear pink to remember her story.

(I don't have many pink clothes, but I found this pink lace coverup in my closet, I forgot I had this. It's VERY different from what I normally wear so I know I'm going to get questions from people around me- which is great because I'll get the opportunity to share her story and spread awareness about the impact of bullying!)

While I have you here I'd also like to bring to light another teen su!c!de case that really impacted me when I heard about it in the news. The story of Nex Benedict.

Nex Benedict was a 16 year old non-binary (two-spirit) native american teen who mainly used the pronouns they/he. They were a student at Owasso High School in Oklahoma. In early 2023, Nex became a target for bullies at school who tormented him for being gender non-conforming. On top of that, he was forced to use the women's restroom, despite feeling unsafe.

On February 7, 2024, Benedict and another transgender student were involved in a physical altercation (the reason I call it a "physical altercation" and not a fight, is because Nex never harmed their assaulters) Nex was attacked by three older girls, beaten so badly that bruises formed around his eyes, and hit his head against the bathroom floor. At one point, one of the girls was repeatedly beating his head across the floor. Nex couldn't walk to the nurses' station on their own, and staff didn't call the ambulance. The only thing that Nex did to defend themself in the situation was splash water in the girls faces.

The next day (Feb 8, 2024), Nex was found dead in their home. They had died by overdosing on Prozac and Benadryl. When I had first heard about this case, it physically made my stomach turn because I've gone through similar things. I've been assaulted and ganged up on in the school bathrooms for being trans, and it's a lot more common than you think.

The trauma and the impact of bullying is no joke, speak up if you're being bullied. You are so important, and that's something you need to remember. You may think that you don't matter, like you're just a waste of space, but that's not true in the slightest!

Don't be so hard on yourself, that's no way to live! Your life is so precious I swear to you. Take care of yourself! You deserve all the love you could possibly be given!!! <3
