P.S. I Love You

So Saturday came around soon enough and Abby and I started work. We were still new to the whole job thing but luckily I got by with Betty's guidance and help and Abby told me she picked up the whole thing at the pictures quite quickly.

I loved working at Betty's. She was so kind to me and we chatted all the time. She told me about he childhood and what it was like for her growing up which I found fascinating. And I somehow found myself telling her all about Paul and what we did together and about Abby and John and the band and George and about school, it was so easy to talk to Betty. And every so often when a customer wasn't in the shop she'd nip out back and make up both a nice steaming cuppa.

Lunch breaks were good too because Abby had managed to convince her boss at the pictures to have the same lunch hour as me so every time it was 12 o'clock Abby came round the corner to Betty's and said: "ready to go?" and we would go up to the chippy at the top of the road and get chip butties.

Dad agreed to the whole Saturday job thing funnily enough, as he was okay with it when I told him I'd be working at Betty's.

So that was that for a few Saturdays and between us Abby and I were making a fairly decent amount.

We had gone down to the music shop the day after we sorted our jobs and I spotted a beautiful Hofner guitar, an electric one, and I new that was it.

The guy in the shop told us it was £35 and Abby replied "don't sell that one, keep it for us or I'll get ye, right?" And the man looked a little intimidated and nodded. I burst out laughing when we left the shop, unable to suppress it any longer,

Abby and I managed to survive our last few days in school before the Christmas holidays by some miracle and on the Friday when we broke up we decided to go to the Casbah as the boys said they would be there.

"We're out!" Abby cried, throwing her hands up in the air as we walked out of school.

"At last!" I joined in, letting out a huge sigh of relief, "c'mon let's get a move on they'll be waiting."

So we practically skipped to the Casbah and met the boys when we got there.

"Michelle!" Paul said, standing up when we saw me.

I rushed into his waiting arms and he held me tight.

"No more school" I breathed into this chest, hugging him back. No more school meant even more time together and if that wasn't a present in itself then I dunno what is.

"Alright?" Abby said going over to John who kissed her then sat down again.

"Hey girls" I heard George say.

"Hi George" I replied, smiling.

"Hey McCharmly, go and get us some coffees would ye?" John piped up.

"Anything for you Johnny boy" he said bowing, though he then rolled his eyes at me to which I smiled and then he left.

"Georgie ye better get a move on or all the good ones will be gone" John said.

"What ye talking about?" Abby asked.

"We're tryin to find Georgie here a bird" John explained, "but he keeps rejectin' our picks."

Oh poor George I thought. If only John knew...No I decided it would be better is John didn't know.

Abby caught my eyes and I caught hers, I felt that a change of subject seemed the best plan of action and she got my message.
